Salgaocar SC travel to Oman for their first Group D encounter against Omani team Al Arouba. Besides these two, the other Group D teams are Neftchi Farg'ona from Uzbekistan and Al-Wehdat from Jordan.
Salgaocar have been through a stuttering patch at the start of the current I-league season, but boy have they recovered well. Currently on a nine match unbeaten run, critics who had written them off are standing up and taking notice of the magnificent turnaround by Karim Bencherifa's boys.
Although Salgaocar as I-League champions looked set to be playing in the AFC Champions League, with the AIFF not having sent the required documents to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) meant that India lost their ACL play-off spot.
They would be missing key players with them being on national duty such as custodian Karanjit Singh and midfielders Rocus Lamare and Francis Fernandes. Newly acquired French playmaker Maxime Belouet should have a part to play to take the team forward in the AFC Cup.
Meanwhile, the home team from Oman will have their attack bolstered by foreign recruits who have been signed for the AFC Cup. Both Danilo Teixeira and Emerson Silva will give them firepower to rip the opposition defense apart.
