Solitary Juan Mata penalty secures away side's passage into the fifth round of the FA Cup at Loftus Road
By Jay Jaffa at Loftus Road
Made an important early save from Mata to keep the game level and collected what was asked of him. Sent the wrong way for the penalty.
Had to cope with the movement of Sturridge but stuck to the task admirably. Was troubled more in the second period and did well to time his challenge on the byline on Sturridge well, for fear of conceding a penalty. On the hour though, he was deemed guilty of pushing Sturridge in the box and conceded the penalty that led to the opener.
Had the task of marking Torres along with Anton Ferdinand, and though his movement was tricky, Hall did well to keep the centre of the defence robust.
Was troubled a couple of times and had to deal with a rotation of Cole, Mata and Malouda down his flank. Consequently struggled to make an impression going forward.
The pre-match talk was of Ferdinand and Terry but the defender kept clear of the Chelsea skipper and largely stuck to his task alongside Hall well. Only the penalty undid their good work in defence.
Was expected to be a weak link but worked hard alongside his captain. No great chances to test Cech but did enough to keep the QPR side ticking. Was replaced by Hulse with 15 minutes to go.
The skipper did what he could alongside Buzsaky and although the midfield threatened to get overrun, he held his own enough to keep QPR solid through the spine.
Struggled to make an impact in the first half and was booked for a lunge on Meireles following a loose touch.
Full of energy and running but was restricted to the odd run at Cole who kept him very quiet.
Worked diligently up top with Helguson and then Macheda before dropping to the left flank upon the arrival of Hulse. Couldn't get anything going for the home side.
Battled hard put lacked the pace to trouble a defence as astute as Chelsea's. Was taken off at half-time.
Came on with 15 minutes to play for Buzsaky
Came on at half-time for Helguson and combined well with Wright-Phillips to create an early chance.
Distribution was good and had an untroubled first half. Put in one solid punch and a made a good save from Wright-Phillips to keep his clean sheet.
The much more cautious of the full-backs kept things tight with Wright-Phillips in close quarters. Rarely surged forward but was dependable at the back.
Set the tone in the first minute with a crunching tackle and did his best to press forward when in position and link up with Malouda.
An ambitious overhead kick aside, Luiz went about his job concertedly alongside Terry. He tried to provide some attacking impetus, moving into midfield at times, including one troublesome run into the QPR box.
Was roundly booed from the first whistle but did well to remain composed and focussed throughout the match. Showed that on the pitch at least, he remains a class act.
Was his usual bundle of energy in the middle of the park and got forward notably on one occasion. As he was played in by Mata's backheel, his cross from the byline was over-hit and wasteful of a good position. Stretchered off in the second half following a brave block. Looked in some pain.
Showed a surprising lack of pace in the first half in a foot race with Young but interchanged well with Cole on the Chelsea left flank. Was guilty of a few miscalculated passes in Chelsea's build up, much to the frustration of the away fans.
Sat in to protect the Chelsea back-line and did well for the most part, hunting QPR's wide men when they found space.
Worked diligently as the lone front man and was as involved as he could be. Had to pull wide on a number of occasions to receive the ball and by and large operated well up top. Certainly the most effective Chelsea forward in the first half.
Had Chelsea's best chance of the first half as he pounced on Young's slip to bear down on goal. With a defender between him and the goal, his shot from just inside the box was parried away by Kenny. Showed ingenuity around the box including a delightful back-heel to release Ramires in the right channel of the box. Composed himself well to give Chelsea the lead from the spot.
Had one shot from range in the early period which was struck well but far wide. Caused the game's controversy by falling under a Hill challenge to win Chelsea a penalty.
Replaced the excellent Mata for the final minutes
Came on with 15 minutes to go in place of the injured Ramires and was booked late for a lunge at Hulse.
