Shillong Lajong FC 3-5 Prayag United: Sanjoy Sen's side move to fourth spot

Shillong Lajong FC played host to Prayag United on Sunday at JN Stadium, Shillong in the 25th round of the I-League. The home team failed to break their streak of four back to back loses, adding to the tally with a 5-3 loss at home.

Both teams started the game aggresively, but it was the home team drew first blood through a Sushil Kumar’s strike in the 7th minute, much to the joy of the faithful in attendance.

The lead did not last for long as Prayag restored parity within the next 5 minutes as Shylo Tulunga’s shot deflected off a defender and flew into the back of the net.

Once again it was Lajong who took the lead, with midfielder Eugeneson heading home Renedy's cross in the 15th minute.

Eugenson’s goal was cancelled out in the 28th minute by Denson Devadas’ header. The first half also saw the first of Josimar Martins’ three goals, coming in the 32nd minute. Prayag went into the interval beating the hosts 3-2.

The second half saw Shillong Lajong making three changes, Matthew Mayora coming in for Lalramluaha, Tuboi coming in for Sushil Kumar and Boithang Haokip replacing Eugeneson Lyngdoh.

Prayag doubled their lead as Martins converted Tulunga's cross in the 55th minute.

Prayag skipper, Menyongar found substitute Matthew Mayora who got his name on the score sheet after firing from close range in the 77th minute.

The last of the goal fest came a minute later from Josimar Martins who rounded off his hat-trick by slotting the ball past keeper Ralte. Josimar Martins was declared man on the match after an estatic performance, netting 3 past the keeper.

Prayag United’s 5-3 win left Shillong Lajong FC with 5 consecutive losses, remaining on 27 points since their 20th game. The win saw Prayag leap frog from 8th to 4th place, with 42 points in 25games.
