Churchill Brothers were held at home by unfancied HAL Bangalore as the match ended 1-1 in Goa. Jagaba Amaba put the away side ahead in the 8th minute. Beto scored for the Red Machines in the last minute of the stoppage time of six minutes to rescue a point.
The away side shocked the home crowd by scoring rather early in the match as Jagaba Amaba scored a beautiful goal before even ten minutes had passed, as he made the most of a defensive lapse by Gouramangi Moirangthem.
Although Manuel Gomes' side dominated the match from then on, they failed to find the back of the net inspite of repeated chances. Both Beto and Binesh Balan failed to convert the many half chances that the home side had. Balan was distinctly unlucky too as one of his shots came off after hitting the crossbar.
HAL too had a glorious chance on the counter but Vinod Kumar could only find the keeper after a good move was initiated between RC Prakash and Amaba.
The second half presented a similar story as R Thyagaraj's boys decided to sit back and hold the advantage as Churchill pushed more men forward in search of the elusive goal. However they continued to waste chances and the HAL goalie, Pramod too pulled off some decisive saves.
It took the home side every bit of the allotted stoppage time and more, to finally level the match as Beto scored in the last minute to deny the away side their second win in twenty matches thus far. It was a pass from Mohammad Rafi which found an unmarked Beto in the penalty box and he made no mistake to slot it past the HAL keeper.
In a day of upsets, it took last minute heroics by Beto to save the home side the blushes. It was a chance lost for the team from Goa against the bottom placed team as they failed to capitalize when table rivals East Bengal had too dropped points.
