Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Chirag United Kerala 3-0 in an I-League round 19 encounter at the Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium, Kochi.
A brace by Dawson Fernandes with a James Moga strike sandwiched in-between saw the Flaming Orange run away as comfortable winners against the relegation threatened Kerala outfit.
Nizam Packeer Ali started with Rehenesh TP in place of Sharath K in goal, while Isaac Boakye missed out due to being suspended.
The Goans started with Adil Khan and last match’s hero Ogba Kalu in midfield, while Dawson Fernandes partnered James Moga upfront.
The visitors headed into the game on a six match unbeaten streak, and as expected, they soon took control of the tie and went ahead when Dawson Fernandes slotted the ball home after a by now customary mix-up in the home side’s defence in the 20th minute.
Anthony D’Souza, so pivotal in the Flaming Oranje’s good run recently, was the next player to try his luck but saw his shot go high and wide of the post.
Charles Dzisah then almost levelled it for the Kerala based outfit, but saw his header from a corner go just wide of the goal.
After forcing two saves in quick succession from Sporting’s goalkeeper Ashok Singh, just when it looked that the hosts were gaining the upperhand, they fell further behind when on the stroke of half-time, James Moga found the back of the net for Ekendra Sen’s men, to send them into half-time well on the front foot.
Packeer Ali’s side then had a golden chance to halve the deficit seven minutes into the second half, when with just the keeper to beat, David Sunday shot straight at Ashok Singh and a great chance was wasted by the home side.
Rehenesh then kept Chirag United in the game, when first he came out to thwart Dawson Fernandes, and then held on to a terrific strike by Moga.
Ashok Singh did equally well on the other end, as he tipped over a shot by Vineeth and then fisted over a header by Dzisah.
Eventually Sporting sealed the tie, as late into injury time, Jae Park found Dawson Fernandes who calmly chipped past Rehenesh to make the scoreline emphatically in the Goan side’s favour.
The win takes Ekendra Singh’s men to 27 points and the club are now 8th in the league table, while Chirag United languish in the relegation zone with a measly eleven points.
