Sporting Clube de Goa downed Pune FC 4-2 in their round 18 match of the I-League played at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru stadium, Goa, on Wednesday.
Mandjou Keita (8', 21') scored twice to put the away side in the lead before Ogba Kalu Nnanna (30', 45+1') made a first half comeback to level the scores to sum up the first half.
James Moga gave Sporting the lead for the first time in the 82nd minute, while Dawson Fernandes ensured the victory for the home side.
The absense of Adil Khan and Jovel Martins impelled Ekendra Singh to start with Kalu in the middle and Warun Deep was called into the starting eleven to cover for Keita Boubacar.
On the other side, Derrick Pereira fielded a strike pair of Keita Mandjou and Douhou Pierre supported by Subash Singh, while Chika Wali was placed in charge of the defense.
Pune FC started with a series of brief attacks before they managed to find the early breakthrough in the eight minute.
Ashok Singh was able to block Douhou Pierre's shot on target, but the Sporting keeper wasn't quick enough to get in front of Keita Mandjou's follow up shot on goal.
Four minutes later, Dawson Fernandes almost scored a quick equaliser, but the Sporting striker couldn't get his shot on target from close range after being set-up by Anthony D'Souza.
Thereon, the visitors dominated the proceedings and increased their lead in the 21st minute. Baldeep Singh's initial shot ricocheted upwards after hitting the cross-bar, and Keita got the better of Ashok Singh as he noded in his side's second goal.
The next goal came in the form of a penalty, to the home side, after Chika Wali was booked for bringing down James Moga in the box. Kalu stepped over the ball and placed the penalty to the left of Amrinder Singh from the 12 yards mark.
Kalu then went on to fire his side on level terms, late in the first half, with a screamer from outside the box after Freiman's cross was blocked by Wali but landed at the feet of the Nigerian.
The second half saw Moga fail to find the target with a low header from Anthony D'Souza's flat cross and Dawson was denied a scoring opportunity by Pune FC's goalkeeper besides directing his header off target on another occasion.
On the other side, Subhash Singh only managed to find the outside of the right post after being released by team-mate Keita after the hour mark.
In the 72nd minute, Sporting's Anthony D'Souza decided to launch a surprise shot on goal after being played in by Dawson, but Amrinder was alert to tip the ball out.
Ten minutes later, Moga shrugged off two of his markers before placing the ball to the right corner, with the move being initiated by a long ball towards him by Freiman Peixoto.
Although it was Dawson Fernandes who sealed the victory for the Goans when he finally found his name on the scorecard with an effort from distance from the right wing which sailed above Amrinder's head and dipped into the back of the net in injury time.
The result didn't shift the position of the two sides on the league table, but Sporting Clube de Goa have now reduced the gap between them and Pune FC to just a point.
