Churchill Brothers were held to a 1-1 draw by East Bengal in a round 17 match of the I-League played at the Nehru stadium, Goa, on Friday.
Tolgay Ozbey's second half strike was worth a point for Trevor Morgan's side after the home side had gained an early lead through Henry Antchouet.
Manuel Gomes went for a three-man attack which kept the East Bengal defense on their toes especially in the opening minutes of the match.
The home side managed to surge ahead when Henry Antchouet headed in a well taken Steven Dias corner in the eight minute.
Moments later, Lenny Rodrigues could have doubled the lead for his team, but the midfielder's long-range effort was denied by the crossbar.
Most of the play was confined to the midfield, with East Bengal still trying to threaten their opponents who by then looked content with the one-goal lead.
The second half saw a resurgent East Bengal side as, in what would have been their first real attempt at goal, Tolgay Ozbey scored the equaliser in the 53rd minute.
Thereafter, Antchouet failed to beat the rival goalkeeper at least twice more, while Mohammad Rafi was also guilty to shoot wide of the target from close range.
Late in the match, it would have been East Bengal running away with three points, but Churchill were lucky to see Ozbey's free-kick rattle the post.
Meanwhile, the man of the match award was bagged by Henry Autchouet for his contribution.
