Sporting Clube de Goa outclassed Mumbai FC as they went onto register a 5-0 victory at the Nehru Stadium in Goa, on Monday, to conclude round 16 of the I-League 2011-12.
A couple of goals from Mackroy Peixoto and further strikes from Anthony D'Souza, James Moga and Ogba Kalu Nnanna were enough to seal the three points for the Flaming Oranje.
Park Jae-Hyun started his second successive match for Sporting Clube de Goa alongside James Moga, while Kalu Nnanna was left on the bench.
Gbeneme Friday and Ebi Sukore were the two men upfront for the visitors, with Darren Caldeira and Noel Wilson being in the centre of the park.
The home side saw most of the ball in the opening minutes of the game and were the first to shower a couple of attacks.
Dhanarajan Singh could count himself lucky for not heading in his own net in the 19th minute off a sharp cross by Sporting's Mackroy Peixoto, while on the other side, James Moga was guilty of not finding the mark with his head in the 26th minute.
Ekendra Singh effected the first change of the evening by bringing in Ogba Kalu Nnanna in place of Park Jae-Hyun around the 20th minute in order to facilitate Sporting's midfield.
Kalu also found himself with an open chance after running past at least three yellow shirts, but the Nigerian sent his shot despairingly off-target in the 32nd minute.
Minutes later, Mumbai FC had their first real chance when Nicholas Rodrigues dribbled into the box, but the former Sporting player's shot on goal was well-blocked by Jovel Martins.
A little before the half-time whistle, Noel Wilson was instrumental in releasing Ebi Sukore in a goalscoring position, but Sporting keeper Ashok Singh was quick to get off his line to make the save.
Sporting started the second half in style as they took the lead in the 48th minute when Anthony D'Souza, on receiving a pass from Keita Boubacar, trickled his way into the opponent's penalty area and placed his shot past Ishan Debnath.
D'Souza almost provided the assist for the second goal but Mumbai FC custodian judged the flight of the ball in time to deny James Moga, who was waiting to nod home.
In the 57th minute however, James Moga finally managed to find the back of the net from a Freiman Peixoto cross after the latter had a brief one-two exchange with Kalu.
Just three minutes after coming in place of Darren Caldeira, Shannawaz Bashir Wahi was the first to have a shy on goal but the Mumbai FC substitute's shot only rattled the advertisement board wide of the right post in the 65th minute. This pretty much summed up their efforts.
Mackroy Peixoto then found the target in the 67th minute through an acrobatic volley after Kalu hit the cross bar and a shot by Moga was blocked by the Mumbai FC defense.
Five minutes later, Mackroy completed his brace to put the Flaming Oranje four goals ahead after being set-up by Freiman Peixoto.
In the added time of four minutes, Mumbai FC's Dhanchandra Singh brought down Dawson Fernandes to concede a penalty which allowed Sporting to score their fifth goal of the evening which was converted by Kalu in the 94th minute.
The win takes Sporting to the eighth spot while Mumbai FC need to find some inspiration if they are to remain in the the country's top division next season.
