Churchill Brothers SC beat Air India 2-0 in round two of the I-League 2011-2012 played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Goa, on Saturday.
Henry Antchouet and ND Opara were the goal heros against the Airmen, respectively scoring once in each half to make it six points in two matches for the home side.
In the eighth minute, ND Opara's early strike on target from close range was just about cleared by Air India defender Napoleon Singh off the goal line.
Air India goalkeeper Pawan Kumar also did well to block Antun Kovacic’s grounder, while Henry missed two other chances in quick succession and Lalrindika Ralte’s shot hit the crossbar.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 26th minute when Henry scored after receiving a pass from Ralte.
On the other side, Air India tried to get back into the game, but Henry Ezeh wasn't able to get the better of Churchill custodian Felix D'Souza in a one-on-one situation.
Desperate for an equaliser, Napoleon Singh fired a long ranger which was going goalwards until Felix managed to get his fingertips to the ball.
There was no end to Churchill’s tale of missed chances in the second session until Opara slipped the ball past the rival goalkeeper in the final minute of play.
Churchill have strengthened their case of being a strong title contender while Air India have been hapless so far.
