Kevin-Prince Boateng broke the dealock with just four minutes remaining as the Rossoneri keep alive their slim hopes of retaining the Serie A title

    Christian Abbiati

Not overly-involved such was his side’s dominance, but he showed good handling skills whenever he was called upon.

  • Luca Antonini

    Luca Antonini

Had opportunities to get forward early on as Milan pushed the ball wide in a bid to avoid the congested centre, but that was less the case as the game continued, and he was eventually replaced by Maxi Lopez with the Rossoneri still needing a goal.

  • Mario Yepes

    Mario Yepes

Fitted in well alongside Nesta, though the odd niggling foul occasionally helped to take his side’s foot off the pedal. A much better showing than that of Bonera in the same position at the weekend.

  • Alessandro Nesta

    Alessandro Nesta

Blocked Kucka’s early effort with an outstretched arm, but was fortunate not to be penalised. Did so much better after the break when keeping up with Palacio and denying him with a perfectly timed challenge.

  • Ignazio Abate

    Ignazio Abate

Sent a cross flashing in behind the Genoa back four but no Milan striker reacted to it in just one of a number of attacks to which he contributed. Saw one shot blocked as he drifted inside in his attempts to influence proceedings further.

  • Sulley Muntari

    Sulley Muntari

Had a couple of half-chances to score in the first half, but fired one effort wide of the near post and headed tamely from a left-wing corner. His heavy touch led to the end of an eye-catching break, before his slashed right-foot shot from close range flew straight at Frey.

  • Mark van Bommel

    Mark van Bommel

Still didn’t look up to full speed despite putting in a reasonable shift on the ball in midfield. He is not showing the same ability to break up play this term that made him such a great addition last season, and his game lasted only 50 minutes.

  • Antonio Nocerino

    3.00

    Antonio Nocerino

Worked hard down the right, but asked too much of El Shaarawy when sending the ball in on one attack, then found he didn’t quite have the pace to make the most of a couple of good moments in midfield.

  • Urby Emanuelson
    1

    2.50

    Urby Emanuelson

Looked short of ideas when playing as a trequartista, and Milan as a side looked one-paced before changes were made and the Dutchman retreated into the midfield line.

  • Stephan El Shaarawy

    Stephan El Shaarawy

Did superbly to get in behind Moretti, only for Granqvist to make an excellent clearance, and was a key attacking weapon for the Rossoneri in the first half. However, he was sacrificed shortly after the interval as Cassano and Boateng entered.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Once again applied some physical strength up top in the first half, but he seemed a little short of full pace as Milan laboured. After the interval he very nearly broke the deadlock when firing a ferocious left-foot shot which Frey parried away.

Kevin-Prince Boateng Top of the Match

Brought on as a trequartista on 50 minutes and was denied by Biondini as he teed up a volley, then he strayed offside before firing home. Might have been punished for attacking Moretti after the full-back pulled him back, but then he showed his clinical edge by firing home the vital winner.

  • Antonio Cassano

    Antonio Cassano

Introduced soon after the break for El Shaarawy as Milan looked for new ideas in their bid to break down Genoa, and he almost broke the deadlock when firing just wide of the top corner from distance.

  • Maxi López

    Maxi López

Replaced Antonini late on in the quest for a crucial opening goal.

  • Sebastien Frey

    Sebastien Frey

Helped out by a resolute defence and a goal-line clearance by Granqvist in the first half, but was then forced to make a strong parry from Ibrahimovic soon after the interval and also blocked a Muntari effort.

  • Emiliano Moretti

    3.00

    Emiliano Moretti

Too easily outdone by El Shaarawy at times as he just about hung on in the battle to keep Milan out, then held back Boateng in full flight late on and got a hefty blow and a yellow card for his troubles.

  • Kakhaber Kaladze

    3.00

    Kakhaber Kaladze

Was treading a fine line in putting in a last-ditch tackle to deny Ibrahimovic in the first half, then made a barnstorming run right through the middle that would have seen him face Abbiati one on one but for a heavy last touch.

  • Andreas Granqvist
    1
    0
    3.50

    Andreas Granqvist

Made a superb clearance to deny El Shaarawy despite Ibrahimovic’s close attentions, then cut out a decent ball toward the Swede from Van Bommel. Continued to match the Swede in the air for long spells, but could only get a touch on the cross which led to Boateng’s winner.

  • Giuseppe Sculli

    Giuseppe Sculli

Playing in an unfamiliar role, the former Lazio man sometimes looked uncomfortable, especially when conceding a needless first-half corner. Tackled well after the break as Genoa had their backs to the wall for lengthy spells.

  • Bosko Jankovic

Bosko Jankovic Flop of the Match

The Serb was a tough competitor throughout, but made one bad tackle too many when sliding in to foul Abate 20 minutes from time, and he was deservedly sent off as a result.

  • Davide Biondini

    3.00

    Davide Biondini

Worked supremely hard across the centre and also tracking back, making one phenomenal challenge on Boateng as the Ghanaian shaped to volley home.

  • Juraj Kucka

    0
    3.00

    Juraj Kucka

Saw his early shot blocked by the retreating Nesta’s arm as Genoa broke, and he didn’t really get forward enough to make up for it later. Worked like a Trojan off the ball in midfield though.

  • Fernando Belluschi
    0
    0
    3.00

    Fernando Belluschi

Was very industrious and put in a decent shift in front of the back line, but was felled late on and had to be stretchered from the field before limping back to the bench.

  • Valter Birsa

    0
    3.00

    Valter Birsa

Picked up the ball in some testing deep positions in the opening stages, and his quick feet on the ball caused Milan some real problems in both periods before he was sacrificed for Carvalho.

  • Rodrigo Palacio

    0
    3.00

    Rodrigo Palacio

Took the attack to Milan almost single-handedly at times, and nearly collected an assist when picking up Birsa’s flick and finding Kucka, but his effort was blocked by Nesta. Had a couple of speculative efforts in the second half, but never looked likely to break the deadlock.
