Live Commentary

  • Yes, it was - because the full-time whistle has just blown and Lazio have won the Rome derby. Devastation for Roma as they've slipped further behind in the race for a Champions League place. For Lazio, and their coach Edy Reja, European football remains a very live possibility because they've now risen to third on the back of that win.
  • 90' + 2'
What a chance for Roma, as Marquinho picks out Borini with a terrific cross but the young forward is unable to rise high enough and his header sails high and wide. Is that Roma's last chance gone?
  • 90'
    Yellow Card Bojan Krkic
  • 90'
    Yellow Card Francesco Totti
  • 90'
Roma's frustration is spilling over now, with both Bojan and Borini picking up bookings in the space of a minute. Four minutes of added time to be played in the Italian capital.
  • 89'
    Yellow Card Fabio Borini
  • 89'
    Yellow Card Modibo Diakite
  • 88'
    Yellow/Red Lionel Scaloni
RED CARD!!!!!! It's ten versus ten now, as Scaloni collects his second yellow for taking out Bojan as he looked to surge into the area after a neat exchange with Marquinho.
  • 88'
It's a free-kick for Roma on the left-hand side of the Lazio box. Totti to take it ... The Giallorossi captain drills it low into the area but Lazio managed to scramble it away. On a side note, Diakite has come on for Matuzalem.

SO CLOSE FOR ROMA!!! The ball is whipped into the area from the left wing and Totti, so often the hero in this fixture, rises to meet it - but his header flashes just wide of the right post. All Roma at the moment, though.
  • 82'
Another chance for Lazio to break but Klose's control is poor and the attack loses momentum. Then Gonzalez takes took much out of the ball after being picked out at the far post.
  • 80'
Totti flicks the ball into the path of Bojan and the diminutive forward wins a corner. Lazio deal with it well but Roma are still pressing.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionJuan Bojan Krkic
Juan has picked up an injury and that's the end of his game. On comes Bojan in his place. Roma really going for this now.
  • 75'
Klose leads another Lazio counterattack, skipping away from Juan before slipping in Mauri but he can only shoot straight at Lobont.
  • 74'
Klose swings the ball into the area but Gonzalez's header is weak. Lazio really piling on the pressure now, though.
  • 72'
De Rossi and Borini are screaming for a red card for Andre Dias, after he fells Totti in the middle of the park. But the ref is having none of it.
  • 70'
Neat play on the edge of the area from Klose, who then slips the ball wide to Gonzalez. The Uruguayan strikes on goal but his shot is beaten away by Labont.
  • 68'
Roma are having to press now and, as a result, are looking horribly vulnerable on the counter. The game is there for the taking for Lazio.
  • 65'
GILT-EDGED OPPORTUNITY FOR LAZIO! Simplicio puts Hernanes away with a horribly misplaced pass but after surging clear, the Lazio No.8 is stripped of possession by the most perfectly-timed challenge from Juan. What a chance that was to seal the game before Hernanes, who really should have gotten a shot away before Juan got back to cover.
  • 62'
    Goal Stefano Mauri
GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL! Heinze is pinged - and then booked - for colliding with Matuzalem in midfield. Ledesma then swings a sublime cross into the box which is volleyed home side-footed by Mauri. Terrific technique from the Lazio skipper, who controlled his volley wonderfully well. Somewhat disappointingly, though, he runs straight to celebrate with the fans who were abusing Juan just moments before.
  • 62'
    Assist Cristian Ledesma
  • 61'
    Yellow Card G. Heinze
  • 59'
After a pretty subdued start to the second half, we're finally treated to a shot as Totti tries his luck from distance. However, while his hot from the right-hand side was powerfully struck, it was always going wide.
  • 57'
    SubstitutionMiralem Pjanic Marquinho
  • 57'
As feared, Pjanic's game is over and he looked in real discomfort as he hobbled from the field. Marquinho has come on in his place.
  • 55'
Worrying scenes for Roma here as Pjanic collapses to the turf with nobody around him.
  • 52'
Juan dispossesses Klose but then gives away a corner. Cue more racist chanting. The referee instructs Lazio skipper Mauri to speak to the fans and he makes a half-hearted appeal for calm before play quickly resumes.
  • 49'
If the Lazio fans have crossed the line, Matuzalem is treading one at the moment after felling Totti with a high boot. The Brazilian looks like a red card waiting to happen.
  • 47'
Disgraceful behaviour from the Lazio fans, who are racially abusing Juan at every opportunity. Credit to the defender for somehow keeping his cool by simply responding to the monkey chants by telling them to keep quiet by putting his index finger to his lips.
  • 46'
Roma with the tip off and we're back up and running at the Stadio Olimpico. Doesn't look like either side made any changes during the interval.
  • And there's half-time, folks. It's calmed down somewhat after a thrilling opening quarter but, overall, it's been pretty absorbing stuff. Credit has to go to Roma, who have been pretty sensational since going down to ten men. The second half will be fascinating. Join us back here in 15 minutes.
  • 45' + 1'
    Yellow Card Stefano Mauri
  • 45' + 1'
Another Lazio man goes into the book and this time it's Mauri, who sees yellow for an alleged dive after tumbling in the area under pressure from Taddei and Juan.
  • 45'
Interesting stat: despite having a numerical advantage, Lazio have made 14 fouls as opposed to Roma's four. There'll be two minutes of injury time, by the way.
  • 44'
Free-kick for Roma close to the left touchline but Totti's delivery is truly awful and the ball sails harmlessly out of play. Wasted opportunity for Roma to apply some pressure just before the break.
  • 43'
De Rossi really is fired up for this one. He's just thumped the ground in frustration after being clipped by Klose in midfield!
  • 41'
Gonzalez finds himself in space on the edge of the Roma box and decides to try his luck but his shot is high, wide and in no way handsome.
  • 39'
Momentary opening for Hernanes as De Rossi makes a mess with trying to deal with a ball over the top but the Italy international is bailed out by the impressive Juan.
  • 38'
Another booking for Lazio as Biava clatters into De Rossi just inside Roma territory. Looked like the defender got plenty of the ball but the ref had no hesitation about dishing out another yellow.
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Giuseppe Biava
  • 35'
Klose climbs highest to get on the end of a delivery from the left wing but he fails to generate much power on his header and its easily saved by Lobont. Timely reminder of his aerial threat for Roma, though.
  • 32'
Totti wins a free on the right and takes it himself, swinging over a wonderful cross which De Rossi and Juan are only just unable to get on the end of.
  • 30'
Agonising for Lazio! Mauri fires the ball across the face of the six-yard box and nobody is on hand to convert. Where was Klose?! He looks disgusted with himself for not getting on the end of that most inviting of crosses.
  • 28'
Heinze gets himself into all sorts of bother at the back for Roma and eventually gives away a free-kick on the edge of the area for playing the ball on the ground as Klose was trying to capitalise. However, Hernanes' subsequent strike on goal fails to beat the wall.
  • 27'
And now Ledesma lashes out at Borini for no reason at all, taking a little kick at the youngster. Lucky to escape without at least a booking for that.
  • 26'
    Yellow Card Matuzalem
  • 26'
Lazio's frustration is undeniably mounting and it's just manifested itself in a booking for Matuzalem for a robust challenge on Totti. Yes, the midfielder won the ball but the studs on his right boot were showing so I'm not really sure what he's so incensed about.
  • 24'
No doubt about it, Lazio are still rattled and they're losing all of the 50-50s at the moment.
  • 22'
Juan's had a pretty impressive start to the game. He essentially set up the equaliser but he's also just put in his second wonderfully-timed challenge of the game.
  • 19'
Roma really buzzing now, as Totti drags a shot wide from the edge of the area. You wouldn't think they were playing with reduced numbers, it has to be said. They're so pumped up right now. De Rossi's reaction to Borini's goal was like Marco Tardelli on steroids!
  • 16'

    Goal Fabio Borini
GOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!! Would you believe it?! Ten-man Roma are level!!!!! Totti's free-kick was blocked but the ball was immediately swung back into the Lazio box and it made its way all the way to Juan at the back stick. His subsequent left-footed strike struck the crossbar but Borini was on hand to convert the rebound - despite a desperate attempt by Biava to clear it off the line. No Muntari-esque controversy this weekend.
  • 15'
    Yellow Card Lionel Scaloni
  • 14'
This one is starting to boil over already! Simplicio lofts the ball in behind the Lazio defence. Borini tries to get on the end of it but he takes a tumble. Scaloni claims there was no contract and immediately moves to admonish forward for a dive but the referee decides otherwise. Free-kick Roma on the edge of the area and a booking for Scaloni.
  • 12'
Free-kick for Roma some 30 metres out. This looks like Totti territory but no, Pjanic strikes it - and it's straight into the wall.
  • 10'
    Assist Miroslav Klose
  • 10'
    Penalty Goal Hernanes
GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLL! Cool as you like from Hernanes, who takes a little step before then putting Lobont the wrong way with a fine penalty. Roma a goal and a man down after less than ten minutes.
  • 9'
    SubstitutionErik Lamela Bogdan Lobonţ
  • 9'
    Red Card Maarten Stekelenburg
PENALTY!!! AND A RED CARD!!!!!! Roma turn the ball over in midfield and Lazio close to devastating effect, with Hernanes playing the ball through for Klose, who is taken out by Stekelenburg. The referee points to the spot after a short delay and then dismisses the keeper for a professional foul. What a dramatic start to the game! Lobont is now coming on for Lamela and his first task will be to face a penalty.
  • 5'
After Lazio's first spell of sustained pressure, Matuzalem picks up the ball on the left before cutting inside and firing a shot away. However, his low strike is easily held by Stekelenburg. Better from the Biancocelesti.
  • 2'
Bright start by Roma, with a clever flick from Totti finding Simplicio, who slips the ball to Lamela on the right-hand side of the box. The Argentine wins a corner but it is easily dealt with by Lazio.
  • 1'
Lazio kick off and we're underway in the Italian capital.
  • Right, folks, the teams have just taken to the field and the atmosphere is white hot. This should be a cracking contest ...
  • Lazio (4-2-3-1): Marchetti; Scaloni, Biava, Dias, Garrido; Ledesma, Matuzalem; Gonzalez, Hernanes, Mauri; Klose.
  • ROMA (4-3-1-2): Stekelenburg; Taddei, Juan, Heinze, Jose Angel; Simplicio, De Rossi, Pjanic; Totti; Lamela, Borini.
  • The Biancocelesti are without a host of players through injury but they are at least buoyed by the availability of Matuzalem, Alvaro Gonzalez and Andre Dias, all of whom were doubts for the game in the Eternal City. So, those confirmed lineups ...
  • And what of Lazio? Well, they lie fourth, level on points with Udinese. That they are even in contention for a place in next season's Champions League is pretty remarkable given the turmoil behind the scenes, with coach Edy Reja having offered to step down - for the second time this season - ahead of the second leg of their Europa League clash with Atletico Madrid last week. His resignation was rejected but there is a feeling that the 66-year-old Italian will walk if Lazio lose today.
  • Certainly, the Giallorossi have already been lifted by the return of their two key players, Daniele De Rossi and Francesco Totti. De Rossi was consigned to the stands for the game against Atalanta for allegedly turning up late for a team meeting, so he'll be determined to prove a point against Roma's bitter rivals. Totti, meanwhile, is back after a one-game ban. The veteran forward has also shrugged off a minor injury suffered in training in midweek to reclaim his place in the starting lineup ... As if the Giallorossi skipper was ever going to miss the derby!
  • Of course, this is always one of the most intriguing encounters in the Serie A fixture list but it's of extra relevance today. Indeed, one look at the table shows just how important this match is to both sides. Roma currently sit sixth, having really gotten their act together after an underwhelming start to the season under new coach Luis Enrique. However, they suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of Atalanta in Bergamo last weekend so it will be interesting to see how the react today.
