    Christian Abbiati

The veteran goalkeeper couldn't do much about both goals in the first half, but kept the opposition at bay in the second session.

  • Ignazio Abate

    Ignazio Abate

A tireless performance from the full-back, who struggled to deal with the pace of Cisse initially, but quickly settled into the match and steamrolled forward at times, although without the end product.

  • Alessandro Nesta

Alessandro Nesta Flop of the Match

Better than Silva, although not by much. The World Cup winner had to continually cover for his lax partner, although his agility is now being seriously questioned as his years advance, and Mexes may come into the side sooner rather than later.

  • Thiago Silva

    Thiago Silva

A surprisingly shoddy performance from the Brazilian, who saw his consistently high standards dip alarmingly. Sluggish in his positioning and command of the box, he was at fault for Klose's opener, whilst leaving Cisse free for the second, which effectively killed any hope of a Milan win.

  • Luca Antonini

    Luca Antonini

Not a particularly good evening for the left-back, who along with Silva, was at fault for both goals. He was never close enough to Mauri and basically allowed the midfielder free attempts at goal. Improved as the match wore on though.

  • Gennaro Ivan Gattuso

    Gennaro Ivan Gattuso

The veteran midfielder had an uncertain spell during the first part of the match, but looked clumsy as his clash with Nesta almost resulted in a bizarre Lazio goal, and suffered an injury as Van Bommel replaced him early on.

  • Massimo Ambrosini
    23
    71

    Massimo Ambrosini

A poor performance from the experienced midfielder, who failed to assert himself on the match and help dictate play from deep, as the likes of Hernanes and Ledesma outran him with ease at times.

  • Alberto Aquilani
    143
    43

    Alberto Aquilani

A hugely promising debut from their new midfield addition. He expertly allowed Cassano to set up the first, whilst assisting Cassano again for the second. Although not all of his passes and moves came off, there was plenty on show for Milan fans to get excited about.

  • Kevin-Prince Boateng

    Kevin-Prince Boateng

The Ghanaian was his energetic and tenacious self, but failed to inspire as a trequartista, which he simply is not. Had a couple of shots at goal in the first half but he fizzled out as the game went on.

  • Antonio Cassano

Antonio Cassano Top of the Match

A virtuoso display from the ex-Sampdoria forward, who assisted the first for his strike partner and expertly guided in the second with his head. He ran the show for Milan during the first half with his technique and movement, and almost bagged a brace, but sadly saw his cannon-like shot hit the post.

  • Zlatan Ibrahimovic

    Zlatan Ibrahimovic

The tall Swede contributed with an opening goal for his side, but not much else in truth. His hold-up play was an important influence in Cassano's success.

    Antonio Nocerino

A second half entrance, the midfielder added bite and industry into a pedestrian Milan midfield and almost helped power his side into grabbing an elusive third goal.

  • Mark van Bommel

    Mark van Bommel

The Dutchman replaced Gattuso early on, but couldn't be the powerful ballwinner that his reputation suggests, as he did not have much support around him with Aquilani and Boateng always looking to go forward.

  • Alexandre Pato
    45
    55

    Alexandre Pato

A late cameo, although he really needs to rediscover his shooting ability soon, after fluffing a guilt-edge chance right at the death.

  • Albano Bizzarri

    Albano Bizzarri

The Argentine keeper was the hero for his side, after making multiple top saves to deny Milan in the second half. A more-than-able deputy for Federico Marchetti it seems.

  • Andrè Dias
    23
    10
    0.00

    Andrè Dias

A competent display from the ex-Sao Paulo man, who kept a cool head at the back and did his job reasonably well alongside Biava, despite looking uncertain at times during the first half.

  • Giuseppe Biava

    Giuseppe Biava

The advancing centre-back failed to keep track of Milan's first two goals, but did not encounter much else in his path bar a late raid at his side's goal, where he was found wanting.

  • Luciano Zauri

    Luciano Zauri

Acting as cover for Stefan Radu, he struggled to deal with Abate as the game wore on, whilst failing to mark Cassano for the opener. Not a great performance by any means.

  • Abdoulay Konko

    9
    0.00

    Abdoulay Konko

The former Genoa flanker had a lot of luck against Antonini at the start of the match, but his opponent began to grow in stature, and his powerful strides began to die down, but still a strong outlet.

  • Cristian Brocchi
    20
    16

    Cristian Brocchi

Facing his former employers, he sat deep with Ledesma but failed to live in harmony with the movement of Milan's exciting frontline.

  • Cristian Ledesma

    Cristian Ledesma

Despite a promising start, where he looked to support Lazio's attack with his passing range and vision, he had an unspectacular match throughout, preferring to sit deeper.

  • Stefano Mauri

    Stefano Mauri

The Italy international proved why he is of interest to Cesare Prandelli, after two more telling assists with the swing of his left boot. Composed on the ball, but grew tired as the game wore on and was replaced by Lulic.

  • Hernanes
    32
    10
    0.00

    Hernanes

Always looking to put a forward pass in a team-mate's path, he failed to break down Milan's improved second-half rearguard with his invention and was replaced by Matuzalem.

  • Djibril Cissé
    105
    10
    0.00

    Djibril Cissé

A pulsating debut from the ex-Panathinaikos star, who started out on the right and gave Abate a difficult start to the match with his pace. Also scored a bullet header and he could form part of the missing jigsaw in Lazio's squad.

  • Miroslav Klose
    164

    Miroslav Klose

Outstanding first appearance from the German marksman, who gave Milan's defence the fright of their lives with his physical power and aerial ability, not to mention his twinkle toes. Should've scored another after his initial wonder goal, but Nesta did well to put him off.

Substitutions

    Senad Lulic

The ex-Young Boys man was given a late run-out, but couldn't break Milan down on the flanks.

The Uruguayan came on for Klose and helped pack the midfield, ensuring the visitors picked up a crucial point.

    Matuzalem

Late cameo from the Brazilian midfielder.
