AND THERE WE HAVE IT!! FULL TIME AND PERU PROGRESS TO THE COPA AMERICA SEMI FINALS!!! A brilliant performance and elation on the faces of Juan Manuel Vargas and co.
Colombia try to redeem themselves on the flanks with Hugo Rodallega delivering into the penalty area, yet the ball is too far for Jackson Martinez. The substitute retrieves the ball, but is cleared by a Peruvian rearguard which has certainly held their own this evening.
Substitution R. Cruzado Josepmir Ballón Villacorta
A change for Peru. Cruzado is replaced by Josepmir Ballon.
Remember, it was Colombia who had missed the penalty, hit the post soon after and also smashed against the woodwork in second half injury time. My God, how Peru have turned the tables. A solid performance by the Blanquirroja.
A subdued Hernan Dario Gomez can only watch on. Los Cafeteros haven't conceded for 360 minutes and yet they find themselves 2-0 down in extra time!
Substitution C. Sánchez Jackson Martínez
Credit to Paolo Guerrero for the assist as it was he who made it possible after skinning the defender and creating the pull-back. For Colombia, they can only watch in horror. Carlos Sanchez is substituted for Jackson Martinez.
Assist Paolo Guerrero
Goal Juan Vargas
COLOMBIA ARE HEADING OUT OF THE COPA AMERICA!!! VARGAS MAKES IT 2-0 PERU!!!!! Wonderful finish from the Peruvian talisman as he is fed the ball after Colombia suffer a lapse in concentration. The Fiorentina man finishes with aplomb, first setting himself up and unleashing a finish into the top corner!
This is also Colombia's first goal that they have conceded in the 2011 Copa America. From their perspective, it was a pretty sloppy one with Neco Martinez in all sorts of trouble as he first dropped the ball before catching his own player. Could this be the goal that knocks them out of the Copa in stunning fashion?
Moreno is held down by Victor Yotun with the substitute not found to do anything wrong. It's Peru who hold the advantage in midfield now as Los Cafeteros switch to an attacking menaltiy with a sense of urgency in their game at the moment.
The second period is underway. Can tournament dark horses Colombia claw their way back into the match. Or can unfancied Peru make it to their first semi-finals since 1997? 15 minutes to ago.
Hugo Rodallega goes close with a freekick which dips over the bar. The referee blows for half-time in extra time. Colombia 0-1 Peru.
Substitution A. Aguilar Teófilo Gutiérrez
Colombia surge forward but Guarin's effort is saved well by Raul Fernandez who clutches the ball greatfully. Teofilo Gutierrez is on for Aguilar.
Goal Carlos Lobatón
GGGGOOOOAAAAALLLLL!!!! PERU TAKE A SHOCK LEAD!!! CARLOS LOBATON MAKES IT 1-0!! A free kick is delivered into the box and Neco Martinez drops the ball in a goalmouth scramble whilst also mistakenly catching his own player. Lobotin was on hand to strike the ball sweetly into the roof of the net. ADVANTAGE PERU!!
Yellow Card C. Sánchez
Carlos Sanchez is shown a yellow card for a rough tackle. Moments before, Colombia had a chance through Falcao but the ever present Fernandez was equal to it.
Substitution W. Chiroque Yoshimar Yotún
Peru are just about withstanding the barrage of Colombian attacks at the moment, with various headed clearances being deployed as they look to hold their own in this extra-time period. A trick by Fredy Guarin is quickly dealt with by a quick-thinking Revoredo.
Peru have a man down and its Chrioquie. The midfielder looks to be caught with cramp. Sergio Markarian is forced into a change and its Victor Yotun who has replaced him.
A cross from the right from Dayro Moreno swerves into the hands of Fernandez who intially drops it before smothering the ball at the second attempt.
Juan Manuel Vargas gets in an unsuccessful effort. No changes in the first few minutes of extra time.
The referee gets this extra time period underway. Who can grab a semi-final spot? We'll have to wait and see.
The referee blows for fulltime after the corner is wasted. Stay tuned for extra time from Cordoba.
GUARIN!!! THE PORTO MAN HITS THE BAR IN INJURY TIME!! How close was that for Colombia who could've sealed the win? The Porto attacker beats his man before teeing himself up and rifles in a shot against the bar after Fernandez got a hand to it.
Dayro Moreno is pushed to the ground by Vilchez. Referee says no wrongdoing. A minute left of the encounter before extra-time.
Cruzado, who has been one of the players to be virtually invisible in this half tries an effort from distance which fails to trouble the goalkeeper and goes over. Smacks of desperation from Los Blanquirroja who have done well.
Armero is fed the ball from the left wing and buys a corner from the defender. The Udinese defender has looked a little off-colour since a strong start. About five minutes stoppage time to go in normal time.
BALBIN!!! The 24 year old continues Peru's newly found dominance in this phase of the match with a stinging 25 yard effort which is tipped over superbly by Neco Martinez. Earlier, Lobaton and Guerrero exchanged passes before the HSV striker was crowded out by two defenders. Can Peru steal the win?!
Hernan Dario Gomez looks on as Dayro Moreno fails to chase down a rushed long ball from Fredy Guarin. The tournament's dark horses have failed to live upto their potential, instead succumbing to Peru's defensive tactics.
A low ball to Falcao is quickly put out for a corner by Christian Ramos. The Porto striker, who lit alight stadiums in Europe in 2010-11 has been ineffectual in attack this evening. An average showing.
Chrioque's progress is checked as he surges forward. Referee Francisco Chacon blows for a foul as physios attend to Chrioque. The Peruvians have been distinctly second-best in this half and have failed to improve on theif first 45 minute showing.
Substitution Adrian Ramos Hugo Rodallega
Gustavo Adrian Ramos is substituted for Wigan's Hugo Rodallega as Hernan Dario Gomez seeks an attacking change with little over 15 minutes to go of normal time. Who can seize the initiative now?
MORENO! HOW ARE COLOMBIA NOT AHEAD IN THIS MATCH?! Moreno has been hugely impressive for Los Cafeteros and he easily beats his man with ease before surging forward into the box and his shot COMES OFF THE POST! Fernandez was beaten. Amazingly it is still Colombia 0-0 Peru.
Peru are still in the game, yet they are still on the ropes as Los Cafeteros surge forward. Moreno gets in with a low shot which goes behind the defence and Falcao who misses it is pegged back for offside.
Missed Penalty Radamel Falcao
HE'S MISSED!! FALCAO HAS MISSED THE PENALTY!! What drama from Cordoba as the game truly springs into life. Alberto Rodriguez is handed a reprieve as his foul goes unpunished! The Porto hitman looked nervous and went low and wide!
Yellow Card Alberto Rodríguez
PENALTY TO COLOMBIA!!! Alberto Rodriguez pushes Dayro Moreno to the floor after another lofted ball. Fransico Chacon doesn't hesitate at all in awarding the penalty.
MORENO!! So close for Colombia! A brilliant lofted ball bamboozles the defence. The Once Caldas star latches onto it perfectly before rifling in a right footed shot which agonisingly zips wide of the left post with Fernandez beaten. Chance goes begging again!
Freekick to Peru on the left. The delivery is a good one as it meeds the head of Guerrero who is penalised for a foul. The effort flies over the bar anyway.
Guarin is back on the pitch following that incident.
Moment of concern for Colombia as Fredy Guarin injured himself whilst clearing the ball from Lobaton. He is initially in pain whilst the stretcher and medical staff is called, yet the jeering from the stands suggest otherwise. Play is restarted. Los Cafeteros are down to 10 for now.
Guerrero picks up the ball on the right side following a poor clearance. He feeds the ball into Lobaton who holds it nicely before scufffing the ball and failing to connect with it and the attack breaks down.
Carlos Lobaton, the substitute smashes in an effort from distance which is held tightly by Neco Martinez. Peru look the more likely to want this as their system seems to be working in absorbing the pressure from the attacks and frustrating Los Cafeteros.
Paolo Guerrero gets an effort in, which is not enough to seriously trouble Martinez. The Colombians had moments before strove forward with some pace on the right wing but their progress was kept in check by Alberto Rodriguez.
CHIROQUE!! Great save by Neco Martinez. The 31 year old holds off a challenge before unleashing a shot with Martinez at full stretch to palm it away. Waste of a corner afterwards.
Peru start strongly in this second period. A backheel from Guerrero enables a cross which is headed away by Colombia.
Substitution Luis Advíncula Carlos Lobatón
A change is made by Peru. Carlos Lobaton replaces Luis Advincula
The second half is underway.
Colombia had their chances no doubt, and have dominated at times. Dayro Moreno Gustavo Ramos and Falcao have gone close for Hernan Dario Gomez's side, with Moreno in particular impressing over the first 45 period with an all-round performance. Peru have been solid, yet an obvious flaw is their exposure to counter-attacks which we have seen often in this period. Their best chance came through Vargas with Guerrero lacking a certain finishing touch.
Well, there we have it. An equal first half from the two sides, which saw attacking chances being carved out towards the end of the period following a slow start to the encounter.
The first half is brought to a close.
Mario Yepes tries a header , yet the ball flies over Raul Fernandez's goal
Hearts in mouths moment for Los Cafeteros as Vargas finsd Guerrero on the left. The number 9's pullback into the six yard box is headed away by Yepes.
Jose Paolo Guerrero is denied by Yepes after he failed to connect with a through ball. The HSV striker has perhaps been a little isolated in attack through the middle with much of the Peruvian play coming from the wings or via Vargas.
Los Cafeteros are edging closer again! They've begun to dominate with a swift counter-attack from a Peru corner. Gustavo Ramos beats his man and makes it 3 v 3 but his searching ball was perhaps a little over hit to Moreno. The latter's delivery to Falcao was offside yet Falcao's header narrowly went wide. Another signal of intent from Hernan Dario Gomez's side?
DAYRO MORENO! The Colombians are getting closer. A corner is dealt with poorly by the rearguard and via a deflection the ball falls to Moreno near the by-line. He holds off the defender but rifles a shot into the side netting with half the ground thinking it had gone in! Almost 1-0.
Now it's Colombia's turn to trouble the opposite goalkeeper. A delightful ball following a good move finds space on the left, the ball is fed into Ramos but he is beaten to it by the brave Fernandez who claims it. Both sides have been equal thus far, but neither team can find that killer pass or lethal finish.
Close from Peru!! The flag had stayed down and a long effort from midfield bounced awkwardly behind the central defence pairing of Yepes and Perea. Guerrero got in behind but was thwarted by the agility of Neco Martinez who made the save.
Chrioque goes on a blistering run which brings the Cordoba crowd to their feet. The Peruvian winger is quickly stopped by Carlos Sanchez, but not after the winger's pace beat more than 3 players. Great stuff.
The set piece delivery has been poor in this game so far, with Peru skying an attempt from the corner. Neither side have hit the target thus far in this game. What are your thoughts in this Copa America quarter-final? Tweet me at @mohammedali_93 and I'll publish the best ones.
FALCAO! Peru are caught in posession by Moreno who feeds the ball to his team-mate, yet the much coveted striker fails to get anything behind it and skies the ball. Frustration vented by Moreno who thought he could've been the better option.
Close from Colombia!! A threatening ball is crossed into the danger area but evades Falcao. On hand though on the far side is the onrushing Ramos but the ball is clipped away by the feet of Revoredo in a last -ditch tackle. The ensuing corner is poor and cleared nervously by the Peruvians, who draw a foul from Aguilar.
Dayro Moreno is flagged offside as he moves a fraction earlier.
Colombia again strike on the flanks where La Blanquirroja are being exposed on. A simple ball and a slight mixup between Falcao and his compatriot enables the ball to evade the Porto striker's feet and the defender is on hand to hold out for a goalkick. A foul is given in the end. Opening up this game.
VARGAS!! Close from the Fiorentina man as he picks up the ball from 30 yards, skips past a defender and rifles in an effort which zips wide. Peru are getting close.
An interesting tussle out wide on the right with Fredy Guarin and Alberto Rodriguez fighting for control on the flank. The Peruvian wins this battle by cleverly dummying the ball out of the Porto man's reach.
Peru are settling into their slow tempo in drawing out the Colombians before unleashing the counter-attack. The ball is being kept well by the defence who's long ball sets up the ball to Advincula on the wing. The striker's cross is acrobatically saved by Neco Martinez who files from his box to get a hand on it.
Falcao is next to go to ground after a foul from Alberto Rodriguez. The free kick is rushed and poorly taken with La Blanquirroja easily taking control of the ball. Fredy Guarin is also penalised for a foul on Walter Vilchez.
The talented Falcao fails to connect with a pass, from the wing as Peru clear their lines. Moments later, a swift counter attack is headed away as the game edges towards an equal balance of play.
This has been a somewhat physical opening in the game, as Paolo Guerrero slides in hard on Camilo Zuniga.
Peru begin to push forward into their opponents half, yet Mario Yepes nullifies the threat of a poorly created attacking chance.
A quick free kick is taken down on the left with Pablo Armero taking advantage from a static Peruvian defence. However, his progress is checked after the ball is deflected into Fernandez's arms. Still all Colombia in this early stages.
Colombia look settled into this encounter , already setting up the initiative on the flanks and pushing their Peruvian counterparts back. Nothing going however.
Dayro Moreno tries to shimmy the ball past the defender on the right hand side drawing applause from the crowd, but is ultimately bundled out of play.
Luis Advincula is already booked for a foul on Pablo Armero
Yellow Card Luis Advíncula
Mexican referee Fransico Chacon gets us underway. Colombia in yellow, Peru in the red strip.
National anthems are sung as the teams make their way out to the pitch. We are in for a cracking encounter. The start is only moments away.
Can Peru make it to their first semi-finals since 1997? Or can Colombia continue their impressive run of form in the Copa and qualify for the last four for the first time since 2004? About 10 minutes till we get underway in Cordoba.
Interesting selection from the Peruvians. Their top scorer Paolo Guerrero is benched along with key player and talisman Juan Manuel Vargas of Fiorentina to accomodate a 3-5-2 formation. Will that prove to be a masterstroke for Sergio Markarian, or a plan that is sure to backfire? Tweet your thoughts throughout the game on Twitter to @mohammedali_93.
Confirmed team lineups are as follows: Colombia: Neco Martinez; Yepes, Perea, Armero, Zuniga; Aguilar, D Moreno, Guarin, C Moreno; Ramos, Falcao. Peru line up as thus: Libman, Acasiete, Revoredo, Ramos; Vilchez, Balbin, Guevara. Gonzalez, Corzo; Chrioque, Ruidiaz
Peru on the other hand scraped into the last eight by virtue of being one of two best third place finishes. La Blanquirroja finished third in Group C, despite losing to Chile in their previous game. Team news to follow shortly.
Los Cafeteros qualified in impressive fashion sweeping to top spot in Group A ahead of much-fancied Argentina. Hernan Dario Gomez's side collected seven points and are the only side yet to concede in this tournament.
