Live Commentary

  • A bizarre and controversial night ends Granada 1-2 Real Madrid after a late own goal from Cortes. I've been Alex Mott, thanks for joining me.
  • 90' + 5'
    Red Card Moisés Hurtado
  • 90' + 5'
    Red Card Guilherme Siqueira
  • 90' + 5'
It's all going off here after the final whistle. Moises and Siqueira have been sent off for reminstrating with the referee. Extraordinary. Granada feel they should have been given a corner, when instead the referee blows for full time.
  • 90' + 4'
And that's it! The referee blows for full time, with the scoreline Granada 1-2 Real Madrid.
  • 90' + 2'
    Yellow Card Borja Gómez
  • 90' + 2'
    Assist Gonzalo Higuaín
  • 90' + 2'
    Own Goal David Cortés
GOOAAALLL!!!! And it's a winner for Real Madrid!!! Benzema again from the right-hand side of the area, knocks the ball across the box, where this time, Cortes is there to accidentally put the ball into the back of his own net. So, so unlucky.
  • 90' + 2'
OHH!!! That should be the winner! A ball across the six yard box from Benzema hit the shin of Varane, but Julio Cesar was there to knock the ball away acrobatically.
  • 90' + 1'
We'll have four minutes of added time here.
  • 90'
    SubstitutionDani Benítez Jaime Romero
  • 90'
Callejon now, on the right-hand side of the area. He cuts inside, and lays the ball back to Benzema on the edge of the area. The Frenchman looks up, and strikes first time, only to see his effort go over the bar.
  • 88'
    Yellow Card David Cortés
  • 88'
Ronaldo nearly with the winner!! Hugain, from the left-hand side of the area, played the ball across the box, but the former United man was just blocked off his shot by Lopez. Great defending.
  • 86'
    SubstitutionIghalo Alex Geijo
Ighalo comes off for Geijo. The Nigerian forward has been fantastic tonight, and the crowd greet him so.
  • 83'
Granada carry on straight up the other end with Ighalo. The Nigerian takes the ball to the right-hand side of the area, and tries to chip Adan. The effort though, goes over the bar.
  • 81'
    Penalty Goal Cristiano Ronaldo
GOOAAALLL!!! Ronaldo scores!! Calm as you like, the Portuguese forward slots it into the bottom right-hand corner, with Julio Cesar nowhere to be seen.
  • 80'
    Yellow Card Dani Benítez
  • 80'
    Yellow Card Marcelo
  • 79'
    Yellow Card Moisés Hurtado
  • 79'
PENALTY!!! A corner from the left is swung in by Granero, and inside the area Ronaldo goes down after a scuffle with Moises.
  • 78'
@thefrenchway fresh from her damning of Ronaldo is back, with this: "when messi plays in 3 different leagues and suceeds then he can be considered best." Discuss!!
  • 77'
Jara, who I can't remember touching the ball since he scored, tries to attck down the right, but his touch is poor and takes the ball out of play.
  • 75'
Ronaldo has it now on the left-hand touchline. He decides to play an early cross into the box for Huguain. The ball though, is too close to Julio Cesar and the keeper comes to collect the ball.
  • 74'
    SubstitutionCarlos Martins Abel
  • 74'
Carlos Martins comes off for Granada to a quite spectacular ovasion.
  • 73'
@SarahThLu: "Ok, let me know when Ronaldo scores 70 goals in 1 season, then we can see who's better." I don't think I aired my opinion on who's better, did I?
  • 72'
    Yellow Card Xabi Alonso
  • 71'
It is all Madrid now. A diagonal ball from Granero is aimed towards the right-hand post and Callejon. The youngster though, can't get on the end of it, and the frustration continues for Madrid.
  • 69'
@thefrenchway is damning in her criticism of Ronaldo: "its clear Ronaldo has the Pichichi in mind, but he's trying too hard and obviously failing."
  • 68'
Another chance for Madrid, and this time it's Xabi Alonso with the effort. A corner from Granero was headered out, but only as far as the former Liverpool man. He shot first time from the edge of the area, but the strike crawled just wide.
  • 66'
@rayzedavies weighs in on the Ronaldo/Messi debate, sort of: "poor game from madrid, the team has to play for ronaldo to score just like how barcelona are playing for messi."
  • 65'
    Yellow Card Gonzalo Higuaín
  • 65'
OH DEAR!!! Once again, Ronaldo bares down on goal, but where he should have passed square to Higuain, the former Man Utd man goes for goal, and Cesar saves easily.
  • 63'
It looks like it's going to be one of those nights for Real Madrid and Ronalo in particular. A free kick from the Portuguese forward on the left-hand side of the area, was hit well, but was smashed straight into the wall.
  • 61'
    Yellow Card Franco Jara
  • 61'
OHHH!!! Agonizing. A cross from Higuain was aimed at the far post, but Ronaldo couldn't quite get his head to it, and the ball raced away for a throw in. That was close.
  • 60'
    SubstitutionÁngel Di María José Callejón
  • 58'
Madrid have a corner now, after a shot from Benzema was tipped behind by Cesar. The ball is whipped in by Xabi Alonso, but it's headed clear by Lopez.
  • 56'
Oh Adan. I have not been impressed with him. At all. That time, a backpass from Varane was controleld by the Spanish keeper, but in a moment of madness, he tried to take the ball past the onrushing Benitez. He manages to squirm past him, but you've got to expect better from your goalkeeper.
  • 54'
I think @ivoryguns is a Madrid fan: "I was checking the clock way too many times... hoping HT would come sooner." I have to admit, I haven't seen a Madrid side that bad in a long time.
  • 52'
Meanwhile, there's a game going on: and Carlos Martins has a shot form 25 yards that goes over the bar.
  • 51'
The referee has ordered Ronaldo off the pitch to get rid of the white tape from his socks as it could be confused with the white of the Granada socks. What an absolutely ridiculous ruling. It's this sort of thing that makes a mockery of referees. Pathetic.
  • 49'
Well done Odion Ighalo. With his back to goal, 25 yards from the net, he turns, takes on Carvalho and shoots from long-range. It's not a great effort and Adan saves easily, but that sort of confidence is exactly what opposing teams have lacked against Madrid this season.
  • 48'
And just like the first half, Granada are quickest out of the blocks. This time, Mikel Rico gets the ball from the feet of Granero and attacks the box. He gets 20 yards from goal, and shoots. His effort though, is weak and Adan gets down to save.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionNuri Sahin Xabi Alonso
  • 46'
    SubstitutionKaká Gonzalo Higuaín
  • 46'
We're back, and it's Real Madrid who will get us underway, kicking from left-to-right.
  • A few of you, including @SwagStarAbzii and @KizitoMbano don't seem to mind if Madrid lose, as long as Ronaldo wins the Pichchi. Strange. Team over individual, surely?
  • @SarahThLu has responded: "I'm a Barcelona fan." I think that explains everything.
  • Well, who'd have thought it? Madrid have been rubbish, Granada have taken their chance, and I've been thoroughly impressed by Abel Resino's side. Remember, @alexjmott is where to go to send me all your comments/predictions/abuse.
  • 45'
And that's it. The referee blows for half time, with the scoreline here at Los Carmenes: Granada 1-0 Madrid.
  • 43'
My friend from Wednesday @SarahThLu offers this: "I think that they need to show their strengths as champions but i'm happy if they lose." Could you elaborate Sarah?
  • 42'
OHHH!!!! That should be the equaliser! Benzema, from the right-hand side of the area, hangs the ball up to the far post, where Ronaldo is there to just head home. The header though, goes wide of the post. Dear me.
  • 41'
@lateral_G agrees with Mourinho's debatable selection policy tonight: "i think what RM r doing is rite, playing youngsters." Why not go all out though? If you've already won the league, play Andy and Nacho as well, surely?
  • 39'
I think this Madrid XI may still be nursing hangovers. Marcelo there, tried to trap a pass, but let the ball slip under his feet and out of play for a throw in.
  • 37'
I think that just about sums up Madrid's performance tonight: Ronaldo, on the left, takes on three Granada defenders, gets to the byline, but tries to take another touch, and brings the ball out of play.
  • 35'
WOOOFFF! Nuri Sahin strikes one from 30 yards, but it goes agonizingly over the bar.
  • 34'
Some conflicting views on Madrid tonight: @simplexQ says : "I am a Real Madrid fan but tonight i don't really care whether we win or lose. I just wish Ronaldo scores at least a hatrick." @Lordremen meanwhile, says: "Madrid needs to show their strength as champions." What do you think?
  • 31'
Ronaldo, on the left-hand touchline, does eight (I counted them) step-overs and puts in a cross towards Di Maria at the far post. The former Benfica man though, isn't exactly known for his prowess in the air, and the ball goes weakly behind for a goal kick.
  • 29'
Granero now, has the ball in the centre circle. He takes far too much time in possession though, and Mikel Rico comes in a steals the ball from under his feet. The veteran then tries to release Ighalo in behind, but Varane just comes across to intercept.
  • 27'
The free kick is taken quickly, as Jara goes on a run down the left. He gets to the byline and tries to draw a foul from Varane. The young Frenchman though, is having none of it, and the Argentinian just knocks it out for a goal kick.
  • 25'
    Yellow Card Raúl Albiol
  • 25'
Benitez, who's come to life in the last five minutes, tries to knock the ball past Raul Albiol, but the Spanish full-back blocks him off and concedes a free kick.
  • 24'
This game has gone from one extreme to the other. For the first five minutes it was all Granada. Then it was all Madrid, and now it's back to all Granada. Jara this time, has a shot from the edge of the area deflected behind for a corner. The subsequent set piece is put in by Benitez, but it's cleared away by Carvalho.
  • 22'
The corner is curled in by Benitez again, and once more, with no one around him, Adan punches away poorly.
  • 21'
It's whipped in brilliantly by Benitez, but Adan punches the ball behind for a corner.
  • 20'
Sahin goes in rashly on Cortes, and Granada win a free kick on the right-hand touchline. This is a decent opportunity for Resino's side.
  • 19'
Since that initially brilliant start for Granada, Madrid have had complete monopoly of possession. And once again, Los Blancos (who play in their all-black kit tonight) go on the attack, but Granero's chipped ball through to Ronaldo is overhit.
  • 17'
Kaka has the first decent shot on goal for Madrid! Ronaldo, on the right-hand side of the area, cuts the ball back to the edge of the box, where the Brazilian international shoots first time. The effort though, goes well over the bar.
  • 15'
Angel Di Maria has the ball now on the right-hand touchline. He cuts the ball back onto his left foot, and from 30 yards, whips a cross into the box. It goes nowhere near Ronaldo though, and Lopez clears with a header.
  • 14'
Don't forget, I'm @alexjmott on Twitter, and I'd love to hear your comments on tonight's match.
  • 13'
I said before the game that it looked like Madrid were going to play a 4-1-3-2, but it's definitely more like a 4-3-3, with Benzema and Di Maria supporting Ronaldo through the middle.
  • 11'
Ronaldo dusts himself off and lines up for the shot. It's 40 yards, maybe more, but his shot smashes against the wall.
  • 10'
Di Maria plays a ball into the feet of Ronaldo, 40 yards from goal. The Portuguese forward tries to play a ball around the corner to Benzema, but Gomez blocks him off and a free kick is given.
  • 9'
Madrid finally seem to have pulled their fingers out, and have gone on their first attack. Marcelo, on the left, puts in a deep cross towards Ronaldo, who gets up and heads over the bar from 12 yards.
  • 7'
OHHHHH!!!! Seven minutes in, and it should be two! Ighalo, on the edge of the area, has a shot saved by Adan. And then, from the rebound, the Nigerian has his effort cleared off the line by Marcelo.
  • 5'
    Goal Franco Jara
GOOOAAAALLLL!!!! And you have to say, it's been coming. Jara drives forward from the halfway line, past Carvalho and then Marcelo. And once inside the area, he cooly slots the ball under Adan, and into the bottom left-hand corner of the net. What a goal. What a start.
  • 4'
Granada come forward AGAIN, this time down the left-hand side. Siqueira makes a break for it past Albiol, and then tries to play a square pass to Carlos Martins inside the area. Adan though, comes off his line, and slids in to collect the ball.
  • 3'
Ighalo has started absolutely fantastically well so far. Martins slips a through ball into the path of the Nigerian, but as he's in on goal, the linesman flags for offside.
  • 2'
Granada immediately play a long ball up into the left-hand corner of the pitch, where Ighalo manages to get on the end of the ball. He does brilliantly well to get to the byline and put a cross in, but Adan, the young goalkeeper comes out and collects the ball well.
  • 1'
Granada get us underway, kicking from left-to-right.
  • Here we go then. The players are shaking hands, with kick off just moments away.
  • As always, if you're spending your Saturday night in, looking at a computer screen, pop over to @alexjmott on Twitter; I'll be your friend.
  • Real Madrid (4-1-3-2): Adan; Varane, Albiol, Carvalho, Marcelo; Sahin; Granero, Kaka, Di Maria; Ronaldo, Benzema.
  • Granada (4-5-1): Julio Cesar; Cortes, Gomez, Lopez, Siqueira; Hurtado, Mikel Rico, Martins, Benitez, Jara; Ighalo.
  • Granada meanwhile, have scored the third fewest goals in the league this season, and will look to banish the memory of the reverse fixture this season back in January, when Madrid won 5-1 at Santiago Bernabeu.
  • Madrid though, will have one eye on the record points total for the league, which currently sits on 99 held by Barcelona. Two more wins of course, and Los Blancos can beat that. And the omens certainly look good: they are currently on a 21-match unbeaten run, and boast, in Cristiano Ronaldo, the first man to score 40 or more goals in successive season in any of Europe's top five leagues.
  • I, of course, jest. This may be the first game for Jose Mourinho's side since they won their 32nd league title, but Granada are certainly won't be taking their foot of the gas: they need two more points to guarantee safety, which they hope to get from what could potentially be a Madrid B team tonight.
  • Good evening everyone, and welcome to's LIVE, play-by-play coverage, of the Real Madrid league winners' party, which incidentally takes place at the same time as an away game against Granada. I'm Alex Mott, and I'll be your commentator for tonight's festivities.
