Player Ratings: Valencia 4-0 Real Betis

Goal.com rates the players on show as Los Che pull away from Malaga with a comfortable victory at the Mestalla as the Verdiblancos were reduced to nine men

By Tom Webber

  • Guaita

    Guaita

Not called into action often but seemed nervy with some fairly short punches. However, he held Benat's swerving shot just before the break in what was a peaceful evening for the keeper.

  • Adil Rami

    Adil Rami

It was a comfortable night for the Frenchman as Santa Cruz offered very little to test the centre-backs. He had a goal ruled out for a marginal offside in what was one of the easiest 90 minutes he will play for Los Che.

  • Barragán
    2
    0
    0.00

    Barragán

A typically adventurous performance from the right-back as he pushed down the wing whenever possible. His crosses were the source of a number of quality chances for his side but the attackers failed to take them.

  • Jordi Alba

    Jordi Alba

Broke forward from the off and was always to link with the attacking midfielders to create space behind the defenders. Was fortunate that Abelda was there to cover him and defend against Montero as he neglected his duties.

  • Ricardo Costa

    Ricardo Costa

A solid defensive display from the Portuguese who had little cause for concern throughout the match. He will no doubt face a much sterner task in the Europa League against Atletico Madrid on Thursday.

  • Albelda
    1

    Albelda

He always seemed to be there to halt Betis' progress as he screened and covered the defence. His short, simple passes enabled his team to dictate possession as well as the tempo of the game.

  • Sofiane Feghouli
    2

    Sofiane Feghouli

Struggled to get into the game early on and when he did his touch was not always there. He stepped up in the second period and his darting run led to Dorado's dismissal before volleying in his side's second of the night.

  • Parejo
    1
    0
    0.00

    Parejo

Shouldered the creative duties for his side from a deep-lying midfield role. His turn and pass that was key to the first goal, displaying how adept he is at linking defence to attack. A defence-splitting pass also led to Dorado's dismissal.

  • Jonas
    1

    Jonas

Ran the channels all night, displaying a deft touch in some great link-up play. A nice one-two with Soldado was finished by the Brazilian for the game's first goal but he went missing for much of the remainder of the game.

  • Roberto Soldado

    Roberto Soldado

Not his most influential display for Los Che but he worked his socks off. Nodded the ball to Jonas for the opener and caused the Betis defence more problems in the second. Got a fortunate deflected goal late on but he deserved it.

  • Canales

    Canales Top of the Match

There were flashes of his talent with a decent array of passing. Hit the post with a low shot just before the break and showed his potential in the second half with a great assist for Feghouli's goal.

Substitutions

  • Hedwiges Maduro

    Hedwiges Maduro

Brought on for Albelda with just over 10 minutes remaining and was fairly combative despite his short amount of time on the field.

  • Juan Bernat

    0
    0.00

    Juan Bernat

Came on in the 81st minute and had little time to make an impact on the game.

  • Pablo Piatti
    1
    0
    0.00

    Pablo Piatti

Was given just over 20 minutes of football to save Feghouli's legs for the Europa League and staked his claim for a starting spot with a great cameo. Assisted Soldado's goal before adding his own in the dying moments.

  • Fabricio Agosto Ramírez

    Fabricio Agosto Ramírez

Got a hand to Jonas' early goal and could maybe have kept it out. However, he had no chance of saving Feghouli's volley in the second half. Suffered a disastrous end to the game as he was beaten to the ball by Piatti in the build up for the third and again for the fourth.

  • Dorado
    0
    0
    0.00

    Dorado

Could not get anywhere near the Valencia attackers all night in a very poor performance. His game ended shortly before the hour mark when he was dismissed for denying Feghouli a goal scoring opportunity.

  • Paulao
    0
    0
    0.00

    Paulao

Failed to track Soldado in the build up to the first goal but was very strong at the back for the rest of the game. He imposed upon the Valencia striker but gifted him his goal with an attempted goal-line clearance.

  • Nélson

    0
    0.00

    Nélson

At times he struggled with Jordi Alba and Canales down the left side and was therefore limited in the amount he could get forward. He managed some crucial interceptions though to minimise the damage from the pair.

  • Nacho

    Nacho Flop of the Match

Was stretched very thin by the combination of Barragan and Feghouli as the pair ran rampant down the right flank. His miscommunication with Fabricio enabled Piatti to get in between and slot home the fourth.

  • Beñat
    0
    0
    0.00

    Beñat

Made a number of impressive sweeping passes as his side tried to break down Valencia and was the creative hub of Betis' midfield. A swerving shot before the break was his side's best effort in the match.

  • José Cañas
    0
    0
    0.00

    José Cañas

Booked early on for a rash challenge but tried his best to get his side ticking. However, a lack of bodies in attack made it difficult for them to hold the ball and ultimately they were overrun by the hosts.

  • Jonathan Pereira
    0
    0
    0.00

    Jonathan Pereira

A hugely disappointing display as he offered no protection for Nacho on his side's left and also contributed nothing to the attack. An ineffectual performance that will not live long in the memory.

  • Roque Santa Cruz
    0
    0
    0.00

    Roque Santa Cruz

Played as the lone striker in what was a very frustrating night. Received barely any service all night and could do nothing to test Ricardo Costa or Rami.

  • Jefferson Antonio Montero
    0
    0
    0.00

    Jefferson Antonio Montero

Hugged the right flank and always looked to take on his man in the first half as he looked to expose Jordi Alba's attacking nature. He was far quieter in the second half and was withdrawn in the 65th minute.

  • Rubén Castro
    0
    0
    0.00

    Rubén Castro

As Betis' highest scorer you would have expected a lot more from the attacking-midfielder. It was non-existent performance as he failed to free himself of Albelda and Parejo.

Substitutions

  • Amaya

    Amaya

Played 30 minutes of the game but was highly ineffectual as Valencia made the most of their man advantage.

  • Salva Sevilla
    0
    0
    0.00

    Salva Sevilla

Was brought on to help shore things up after Dorado's dismissal and made little difference to the fixture. His back pass was too short and allowed Piatti to steal in for the fourth.

  • Jorge Molina
    0
    0
    0.00

    Jorge Molina

Had no more luck than Santa Cruz in attack and had no impact whatsoever on the game until being sent off for dissent after the fourth goal.
