Still, it looks like the big two won't have things all their own way after all. It has been a pleasure. Thanks for joining me, and stay tuned for the match report and ratings. See you on Twitter: @bghayward
Safe to say nobody expected that result. A great result for Real Sociedad, for Real Madrid, for neutrals as well. But not for Barcelona, who should have had this wrapped up by half.-time. Questions will be asked of the defence following this display, not to mention Villa's suicidal back-pass. Totally unncecessary.
Yellow Card Lionel Messi
Barca were all over the home side early on, but Sociedad deserve a point now. Messi booked for an awful dive in the last seconds. Penalty would have been very unfair.
Real causing havoc in there with three successive corners and Martinez almost one it for the Basques with a header from the first, which was blocked right on the line.
Bad challenge by Busquets on Aranburu and from the well-worked free-kick, Alves almost headed Vela's delightful cross into his own net. Good defending in the end, though.
Vela blasts a shot way over the bar from distance. Real looking relatively comfortable now. Barca still struggling to overcome the psychological blow of letting in those two quick goals.
Carlos Vela is one of the players to have come on for Real and the Mexican is starting to see the ball up front. He could cause problems for a tired Barca defence.
Yellow Card Cadamuro
Alexis rumoured to be out for up to two months with a hamstring injury. More bad news for Barcelona.
Substitution McDonald Mariga Mikel Aranburu Eizagirre
Substitution Imanol Agirretxe Carlos Vela
Substitution Andreu Fontàs Prat Andrés Iniesta Luján
Double change from Sociedad as Real look to hold out - or even win it.
Valdes had his back to the ball and almost allowed it to go into his own net from a pass-back. He turned around just in time and was able to stop what would have been a hugely embarrassing - and costly - moment. Guardiola will not be amused.
Martinez blocks Messi's shot and Bravo races off line to intercept a through-ball to the Argentine. The Catalans are pressing again and that's ominous for the home side.
Madrid in action straight after this one. And if this stays as it is, it will be a big boost for Jose Mourinho's men.
Substitution Xabi Prieto Cadamuro
Pedro curls high and wide after he is set up by Alves. The Spain forward should have done better.
Yellow Card Zurutuza
Crazy. We're in round two of La Liga but with Barca and Real Madrid so superior, a result like this could have serious consequences on Barca's title hopes. I know, I know - it's ridiculous. Round two!
Messi with a trademark run but he can't find the finish as he drags a poor effort wide with his left foot.
Messi's tame free-kick easily gathered by Bravo.
Substitution Thiago Alcántara Lionel Messi
So Messi now on for Thiago, but Barca hit by a double blow and will have to lift themselves now. There's still life in La Liga!
Goal Antoine Griezmann
Shocking back-pass from Villa which let in Agirretxe, who took the ball round Valdes and chipped the ball onto the bar. Busquets, racing back, looked to handle, but Griezmann headed in the rebound. There was some confusion and it looked as if the goal would be disaollowed, but it stood and Busquets stays on as well. 2-2!
2-2!!!!!!!!!! Gooooooooooooooooooooool! Unbelievable! Looked so unlikely just a few minutes ago!
Yellow Card Busquets
Assist Xabi Prieto
Goal Imanol Agirretxe
And they get one! Great header from Agirretxe!!!!! Goooooooooooool! Now we have a game!
Better from ther Basques and Valdes has to be alert to claim another cross. Not really threatening, though. They need a goal and badly.
Illarramendi curled in a corner for Real, but straight into the arms of Valdes. It looked to have gone out as well. Not good enough.
They said Cesc wouldn't play if he signed for Barca. And that Thiago wouldn't get chances if Fabregas arrived. Both have started the first two Barca league games. Interesting.
If things stay as they are, is it even worth bringing on Messi? Have your say on Twitter: @bghayward
Early indications suggest Alexis will be sidelined for three weeks with a muscle injury. And that's a blow for Barcelona.
Real Sociedad chasing shadows, though, as Barca pass it around in the midfield. Villa shoots just wide as the Catalans eventually decide to go forward. Speculative.
Decent effort from Agirretxe, who drills a low shot wide as Real make a bright start.
So we're back underway here and Barca have the ball, as expected. Can Real get back in it? Stranger things have happened...
And that's a good point. With the incorporations of Alexis and Cesc, Barca have fantastic options this season - even with injuries.
X_avis on Twitter: I believe Pep is going to do this sort of rotation all season... everyone's getting enough time and less risks too!! Less injuries
First half over. Like a stroll along the promenade for Barcelona in San Sebastian. They might even bring the tapas out in the second half.
Valdes saves from Xabi Prieto's angled drive. It's the best Real have had, but still a routine stop for the Catalan keeper.
Barca stroking the ball around as the clocks ticks towards half-time. Tiqui-taca, tiqui-taca, tiqui-taca...
Hard to see how Real can get back into this one. Let me know your opinions on twitter: @bghayward
Pedro races on to a long ball and dinks the ball over Bravo, but the Chilean keeper had come racing off his line and does enough to cut down the angle for the Tenerife-born forward.
Mariga heads wide following a Real free-kick from the right. Never troubling Valdes, that...
Substitution Alexis Sánchez David Villa
So Villa on as Alexis is stretchered off. Shame because the Chilean was playing well. He must be a doubt for Tuesday and if it's a muscle problem, he could be out for a while.
Bad challenge by Estrada on Alexis and it doesn't look good for the Chilean. Villa is warming up.
Game has lost some of its early intensity now - and Real will be glad about that,
Real twice appealed for penalties, one for an alleged foul on Agirretxe, then for a supposed Fontas handball, when the ball struck his arm. Neither given and neither should have been.
And it should have been three! Barca are killing Sociedad with these balls over the top. Xavi put Cesc through and the former Arsenal man only had to square for Alexis, who would have had an open goal. But his pass was too close to Bravo, who gratefully intercepted.
Guardiola looking serious - not sure why... Brilliant start from Barca in a fixture they lost last season.
Gooooooooooooooooooooooool! 2-0!!! And it really is too easy. Alexis missed with the goal at his mercy but Cesc bundled home the rebound after Bravo had parried. What a start!
Goal Cesc Fàbregas
Assist Alexis Sánchez
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooool!!!!! Barca score! Great ball over the top from Cesc, Alexis squares and Xavi is left with the easiest of tap-ins. Simple.
David Villa also on the bench as Barca are playing without an out-and-put striker. Cesc almost went clean through just now but was called marginally offside. Barca pressing already.
Here's the Barca line-up: Valdes; Alves, Fontas, Busquets, Adriano; Keita, Xavi, Thiago, Pedro; Fabregas, Alexis. Coach Pep Guardiola very much looking ahead to Tuesday's Champions League clash against AC Milan at Camp Nou. Cesc as a 'false' 9.
So we're underway and it's an experimental line-up for Barca, with Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Javier Mascherano all named on a strong bench with the returning Carles Puyol, back from a knee injury which saw him miss a big chunk of last season.
