Player Ratings: Paris Saint-Germain 1-1 Girondins de Bordeaux

In a slow-burning game at Parc des Princes, the hosts had to battle back from one down to level. Here's how all the players fared

By Robin Bairner

  • Salvatore Sirigu

    Salvatore Sirigu

Made a first-half save from a testing Plasil effort, but was left helpless when Maurice-Belay and Diabate advanced on him for the latter to score. Did prevent Bordeaux grabbing a winner with a very smart late save.

  • Mamadou Sakho

    Mamadou Sakho

Showed something of a lack of confidence midway through the second period when his error was pounced upon by the guests, who launched an attack that concluded with a shot off the bar. Another error in the closing stages was very nearly fatal, and the captain will not be pleased with his product.

  • Siaka Tiéné

    Siaka Tiéné

Deputising for the injured Maxwell, the left-back enjoyed a solid performance without ever looking especially spectacular. May have saved his side a point with a fine late challenge on Ben Khalfallah.

  • Alex

    Alex

A real powerhouse in the air, the centre-back missed the first half’s best chance when he headed wide from a Nene free kick. Was part of a PSG rearguard that looked decidedly sloppy after the break, though he was not the root of their problems.

  • Christophe Jallet

    Christophe Jallet

Was more than happy to raid down the right-hand flank, which was a job he performed with some success, but in a defensive capacity, he had a harder match, with Tremoulinas enjoying too much freedom down his side.

  • Jérémy Menez

    Jérémy Menez

The most disappointing of PSG’s offensive quartet, the former Roma man too often took the pace out of attacks and was inaccurate with his passing on too many occasions. A matchwinner at times, the attacker needs his decision making to be perfect, and tonight it was poor. Replaced at half time by Matuidi.

  • Nenê

    Nenê

Offered the most creativity in the PSG side, having been asked to operate down the right hand side of the field. Tried to do too much at times, petering out badly in the second half, and he would be replaced by Gameiro. His free kicks were mixed; the best of these drew a moderate save from Carrasso.

  • Mohamed Lamine Sissoko

    Mohamed Lamine Sissoko

Received his customary suspension for a tackle midway through the first half. Although he largely played in a defensive fashion, he pushed forward with danger on occasion, drawing a good save from Carrasso. Withdrawn to make way for the more attacking Bodmer.

  • Javier Pastore
    0
    0
    2.50

    Javier Pastore

Managed to see a significant amount of ball in the first half, but when he was given room he was unable to play the killer ball. Offered flair, but his efforts were not enough to break down the visiting defence and faded out of the game after the break.

  • Thiago Motta
    0
    0
    2.50

    Thiago Motta

Imposed himself in the midfield to begin with, making several interceptions but most notably keeping possession steadily for his side, but he faded from the match. Although he was enough to lay a solid foundation for PSG, they needed more thrust from this area.

  • Guillaume Hoarau
    1
    0
    3.00

    Guillaume Hoarau

The focal point of PSG’s attacks, the tall striker won a good deal of ball in the air, but too often he struggled to pick out team-mates, despite having a number of players up in support. Looked better on the ground than in aerially and took his chance well.

    Mathieu Bodmer

Brought on to add attacking impetus to PSG’s midfield midway through the second period. His brilliant backheel created the leveller.

  • Blaise Matuidi

    Blaise Matuidi

Came on at half time for the disappointing Menez but failed to offer the defence much protection.

  • Kevin Gameiro

    Kevin Gameiro

Given the closing stages as a replacement for Nene.

  • Cédric Carrasso

    Cédric Carrasso

His first serious action of the game came early in the second half, when he got down well to save a Sissoko shot. Was steady throughout, though he’ll feel he perhaps should have done more to prevent the equaliser.

  • Michael Ciani
    1
    0
    2.00

    Michael Ciani

The most overly physical of Bordeaux’s three central defenders, the former Lorient man was fortunate to escape an early booking for several firm challenges. Managed to curb this aspect of his game to produce an impressive showing.

  • Henrique

    0
    3.00

    Henrique

Making his return to action after a four-match absence because of suspension, he enjoyed a successful game in the air, clearing several set pieces and offering a threat at the other end of the park from similar situations.

  • Mariano

    0
    3.00

    Mariano

Not nearly as productive as Tremoulinas on the left flank in an offensive sense, but the Brazilian was rarely beaten down his channel. Will be a little disappointed with his lack of offensive threat, though.

  • Marc Planus
    1
    0
    3.00

    Marc Planus

Acted as the sweeper in the Bordeaux defence, not getting involved unless absolutely necessary. Was caught out by Menez just before half time and was booked for committing the foul. Largely tidy after the break.

  • Benoit Tremoulinas
    1
    0
    3.50

    Benoit Tremoulinas

Operating as a left wing-back, the Bordeaux man typically delivered dangerously from his wide role, making several excellent surges forward. His best created a great chance for Plasil. Defensively, he was caught only rarely.

  • Ludovic Obraniak

    2.50

    Ludovic Obraniak

Did the damage against PSG for Lille in last season’s Coupe de France final, and threatened to do likewise on this occasion, acting as the catalyst for the opening goal. Wasn’t as influential as he would have wanted to be on a consistent basis.

  • Landry N'Guemo
    0

    3.00

    Landry N'Guemo

Charged with the most defensive role of the midfielders, he struggled at times in the first half to plug the gap in front of the rearguard, though there could be little doubt this was partly because of the system Bordeaux were playing. Broke up play very impressively after the break.

  • Jaroslav Plasil
    0
    0
    3.00

    Jaroslav Plasil

Bordeaux’s most important player, the Czech kept Bordeaux’s play flowing nicely as they controlled possession in the first half. Thought he had scored in the first half with a low shot, but Sirigu denied him excellently, and when he beat the Italian he rattled the bar. An excellent display overall, though.

  • Nicolas Maurice-Belay

    Nicolas Maurice-Belay

Escaped the clutches of the PSG defence on one occasion in the first half, but allowed Alex to come back and slam the door shut. He would not make the same error as he set up Diabate for Bordeaux's goal. Tended to drop deep to look for possession rather than nipping in behind, and linked play well when he did so.

  • Cheick Tidiane Diabaté

    Cheick Tidiane Diabaté

Made an impact last weekend against Ajaccio, and after a slow start in this game he would again impress. His industry was excellent, and his simple goal was just reward for his efforts. Nearly grabbed a winner late on, too.
