Werder Bremen coach Thomas Schaaf will have to do without the services of defenders Leon-Aderemi Balogun and Mikael Silvestre, midfielders Ozkan Yildirim and Tim Borowski as well as striker Denni Avdic, who are all recuperating from injuries.
Germany international Marcel Schmelzer has been ruled out of the game on Friday and will be replaced by youngster Chris Lowe in the starting line-up. Following his impressive performance against Augsburg in the last round, Robert Lewandowski is set to retain his place in the team, but is likely that he will be pushed deeper to make place for the returning Lucas Barrios.
The central defence pairing is still unclear as Felipe Santana had a superb game against Jos Luhukay's men and could be preferred to Neven Subotic. Mats Hummels played for Germany in midweek, and fatigue may prompt Jurgen Klopp to bench him for the game on Friday.
