In one of the most one-sided games in Indian football history, Dempo demolished Air India 14-0 but it wasn't good enough to keep their title hopes alive as Salgaocar secured the title by beating JCT 2-0 in Ludhiana
Ranti Martins netted a double hat-trick, Beto scored four times, Peter Carvalho bagged a brace while Climax Lawrence and Glifton Gonsalves were the other scorers.
The first half saw Dempo create several chances right from the start but failed to capitalise on it with Beto hitting the crossbar on one occasion.
Souvik Mondal denied Ranti's effort earlier in the match and Clifford Miranda missed an open chance from inside the box.
Air India didn't have any goalscoring opportunity and only once did manage to threaten the Goans in a counterattack when Manjit Singh crossed from the right.
Thereafter it was just one way traffic as Dempo were 3-0 up at half time with Ranti scoring twice and Peter Carvalho also chipping in with a goal.
However in the second half, Air India seemed to have lost all composure as they couldn't manage to contain the Dempo flurry of attacks.
Ranti went on to score a double hat-trick while Beto scored four goals as well. Armando Colaco made some changes in personnel by bringing in Samir Naik for Clifford Miranda but it didn't change the tempo of the game.
Dempo SC are now placed second on the I-League table as their head-to-head against Churchill Brothers is better.
The match ended with a 14-0 scoreline in what would be remembered as one of the most shameful days in the history of Air India.
