Indian National Team: India Suffer First Defeat Of Portugal Tour As They Lose Out To SU Sintrense

The Indian national team suffered their first defeat of the Portugal tour as they went down 1-0 against Portuguese Third Division outfit SU Sintrense on Thursday evening in Lisbon.
Bob Houghton's team conceded in the first half and were unable to find a response.
There was one only change to the team that defeated Atletico CP on Wednesday as Subrata Paul replaced Arindam Bhattacharya in goal.
Once again Abhishek Yadav and Mohammed Rafi were the two strikers up front but the duo found it difficult to get going in this game as Sintrense stopped India’s midfield from creating chances.
First Defeat
For a long time in the first half it looked like there would be no goals but five minutes before the halftime whistle SU (Sport Uniao) Sintrense took a shock lead.
India went into the interval trailing and facing their first defeat in four practice matches.
Like the previous three games, Bob Houghton made several changes at halftime with as many as nine substitutions taking place.
Goalkeeper Subrata Paul and winger Clifford Miranda were the only two players to complete ninety minutes.
Among the substitutes, young Baljit Sahni was making his first friendly appearance of the tour after recovering from injury. Sahni was playing alongside Sushil Kumar Singh in a new frontline pairing.
Back In Action
India played at a very high tempo in the second period but were unable to find the equalizer.
India’s best attempt on goal was through Baljit Sahni whose powerful shot rattled the woodwork in the 65th minute.
In the end the Portuguese Third Division side held on to a famous win as India suffered their first defeat of the Portugal venture after three consecutive victories.
