Ali Al Habsi Top of the Match

The Oman international has been imperious between the sticks for Wigan this season and a number of fine saves, with one against Sandro's first-half effort in particular impressing the home crowd continued this excellent form.

  • Emmerson Boyce

    Emmerson Boyce

Looked to have rattled the usually superb Rafael van der Vaart with a solid first half display, tracking the Dutchman's every move as strayed from the wing inside. Offered an attacking threat in the second half, marauding up the right-wing with Spurs looking far too narrow.

  • Gary Caldwell

    Gary Caldwell

Struggled with the pace of Defoe but dealt admirably with the aerial threat of Roman Pavlyuchenko, meeting the ball with typical vigour. Looked solid on set-pieces and commanded his defence superbly.

  • Antolín Alcaraz

    Antolín Alcaraz

The Paraguayan settled well, blocking a number of balls that threatened to open the hosts up, frustrating Rafael van der Vaart. Showed wonderful technique on the 18th minute, pitching a wonderful cross field ball as Wigan looked to peg back Spurs.

    Maynor Figueroa

Will have breathed a huge sigh of relief on seeing Aaron Lennon's name on the substitutes bench but Luka Modric soon put paid to any thoughts that he was in for an easy afternoon. The full-back dealt admirably for the most part, restricting the Croatian's space superbly.

  • Ben Watson

    Ben Watson

Took a little time to get into the game, misplacing a few passes in and around the centre circle, gifting possession to Redknapp’s side but certainly grew in confidence and his distribution improved. Fine ball through to Rodallega could have been exploited more effectively.

  • James McCarthy

    James McCarthy

Failed to gain a foothold in the game as Tottenham swamped the midfield. Managed to get a dangerous looking volley away on the half hour mark but it never looked like testing Gomes. Looked nervous throughout, which in fairness, isn’t ideal as the relegation dogfight reaches fever pitch.

  • Charles N'Zogbia

    3.50

    Charles N'Zogbia

Was left isolated on the wing and looked to move inside to escape the reaches of the excellent Assou-Ekotto. Looked more dangerous on the right-hand side, forcing an excellent low save out of Heurelho Gomes on the 47th minute. Talismanic for the home side.

  • Tom Cleverley

    Tom Cleverley

Showed glimpses with the ball at his feet that Manchester United have got a superb prospect on their hands come next season but was knocked off it with ease at times and struggled to properly test the Spurs defence. Saw a fine second-half effort curl just wide

  • Victor Moses

    Victor Moses

Hit a great effort on the 22nd minute mark from Ben Watson's corner, only to see it dip just over Gomes' bar. The youngster's pace certainly troubled Spurs on occasion but his final ball was often found wanting, leaving strike partner Rodallega frustrated.

  • Hugo Rodallega

    Hugo Rodallega

Looked to trouble Sebastien Bassong with his speed and could have had a penalty just before half time but was otherwise fairly quiet, not able to utilise his strength to full effect.

    Conor Sammon

The Irishman replaced Moses with just under 20 minutes remaining but was sloppy with his distribution as Wigan's efforts going forward broke down.

  • Gomes

    Gomes

The Brazilian looked assured behind the somewhat unfamiliar pairing of Bassong and Dawson and delivered some superb saves, the most notable being a low, near-post stop to keep out N'Zogbia early in the second half. Very impressive.

  • Vedran Corluka

    3.00

    Vedran Corluka

Was tested down the channel by the youngster Cleverley and dealt well, opting to sit back and let the Manchester United loanee run at him. Rarely looked to maraud forward, allowing Van der Vaart the freedom to roam down the right-hand side.

  • Michael Dawson

    Michael Dawson

An absolute rock in Spurs’ backline, proving dominant in the air and sharp on the ground. The Spurs captain offered very little change to Wigan’s attacking line-up and quelled a vibrant N'Zogbia. A vital asset.

  • S. Bassong

    3.00

    S. Bassong

Looking to play his way into the side to face Real Madrid but struggled with the pace of Rodallega on occasion and may well have conceded a penalty on the stroke of half time after felling the powerful striker. Atoned early in the second half with a sublime block to keep out N'Zogbia.

  • Benoit Assou-Ekotto

    3.50

    Benoit Assou-Ekotto

Dealt with the very tricky N'Zogbia and Moses pairing well, forcing them off the ball with impressive strength. Dangerous when attacking down the flank and solid at the back, this was a complete full-back performance from the Cameroon international.

  • Rafael van der Vaart
    1

    3.00

    Rafael van der Vaart

Started in an unfamiliar position down the right-hand side but looked to move inside when possible, making the most of an interchangeable Spurs midfield. Looked incredibly frustrated up until the hour mark and didn't look fit off the ball.

  • Sandro

    2
    3.50

    Sandro

So much more than the destroyer tag with which he has been labelled, the Brazilian was impressive both on and off the ball. Linking well with Jenas deep in midfield and pressing hard on his Wigan counterparts, the youngster was a class above his peers at times.

  • Jermaine Jenas

    2
    3.00

    Jermaine Jenas

Very brave in the tackle for Spurs and aided Assou-Ekotto as N'Zogbia looked to cause problems early on. Didn't give Watson a minute's peace but did leave his defenders isolated in the second half, allowing N'Zogbia gaps to exploit in the middle.

  • Luka Modric
    1
    0
    3.50

    Luka Modric

Looked in the mood from the off, knocking a lovely little backheel through to Pavlyuchenko in the opening five minutes. The little Croatian slowed the game down to a snail's pace at times, looking comfortable even with the Wigan midfield bearing down on him. Pure class.

  • Roman Pavlyuchenko

    Roman Pavlyuchenko

The Russian striker was a little off the pace in the first half, failing to latch onto a number of high balls pitched his way by both Bassong and Modric. He improved in the second, linking up well with Van der Vaart.

  • Jermain Defoe
    2

Jermain Defoe Flop of the Match

Very quiet in the opening exchanges, with distribution shortcoming from his teammates. Had come looking for his 100th Premier League goal but never looked likely to get it. Was rightly subbed just before the hour mark for Peter Crouch. Very poor.

Substitutions

  • Aaron Lennon

    Aaron Lennon

Brought on for the clearly unfit Van der Vaart with 20 minutes remaining but struggled to make much of an impact.

  • Peter Crouch

    3.00

    Peter Crouch

Brought on for the disappointing Jermain Defoe shortly after the hour mark and wasted an effort soon after, blazing over from 20-yards out. Offered a different threat to Defoe and made Caldwell and Alcaraz look very uncomfortable
