It's over!! Well that was a game of two strikers. Two goals apiece from Didier Drogba and Sergio Aguero-who knows they could be teaming up one day-mean that Atletico Madrid and Chelsea finish all square. At least three wonderful goals-a marvellous end to a good match. Thanks for following tonight. Have a good evening!!
Well.........that was nearly three in roughly three minutes. Drogba wins a freekick, but instead of striking goalwards first time, Chelsea try to tee him up and his effort is blocked.
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!!!! Another WONDERFUL goal! Kun Aguero! Wins a freekick on the edge of the box. He curls it goalwards, and leaves Petr Cech with no chance as it's right in the top corner. Absolute genius!!!
Goal Sergio Agüero
Goal Didier Drogba
GOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!!!! FANTASTIC! Fantastic goal by Drogba! Brilliant! Cole's throughball finds Drogba with plenty to do, marked by two men. But he shrugs off one, and then puts the ball through the others legs. One on one with Asenjo, the keeper saves smartly, but Drogba smashes in the rebound. Wonderful goal!
Yellow Card John Terry
John Terry gets a booking, probably persistent fouling as much as that challenge on Aguero.
Antonio Lopez advances forward, but his cross is tamely headed goalwards by Maxi Rodriguez. Cech gathers with ease.
Substitution Simão Jurado
Goal Didier Drogba
GOAL!! You can't discount that man Drogba. Quality cross from Malouda, and Drogba rises highest in the centre of the Atletico box to head home with consumate ease.
Quick turn from Forlan, but his shot flies horribly high and horribly wide. Less said about that the better
A Simao freekick is cleared by the Chelsea defence, it reaches Maxi Rodriguez who optimistically attempts a first time strike with his left foot which flies well over Cech's goal.
AAAAH Deco should do better there. Asenjo paws an Anelka cross away from Drogba. The ball lands straight at Deco who controls instantly, but his snapshot is dragged wide of the sprawling keeper's post. Good chance that.
Michael Ballack rather typifies Chelsea's night-neat interchange with Deco, but his pass to Deco flies straight into touch.
Simao, who has been a constant thorn in Chelsea's side, drives a wonderful cross low into the area, but it evades everyone.
Lampard's throughball finds Drogba bearing down on goal, but the Ivorian fails to control his first time shot. Just as well he was offside anyway-rather spared his blushes.
Substitution Reyes Maxi Rodríguez
The home fans are buzzing here, and who can blame them? Jose Antonio Reyes, who has had an up and down night comes off and is replaced by Maxi Rodriguez.
Substitution Joe Cole Deco
Substitution Salomon Kalou Nicolas Anelka
Chelsea have immediately upped the tempo. And Ancelotti does his bit. Bringing on Deco and Anelka for Joe Cole and the anonymous Kalou.
That was, unbelievably, Atletico's first goal of the group stage. Plus, what a way for Aguero to impress his potential suitors-scoring against them.
Goal Sergio Agüero
WHAT A GOAL! What a finish by the young Argentine Aguero. Antonio Lopez advances from left back, his cross his half cleared by Terry. Aguero, who peeled to the edge of the area, strikes the ball first time on the volley to leave Cech with absolutely no chance. Brilliant finish!!
Push by Lampard on Antonio Lopez halts what was potentially a half decent position for Chelsea.
John Terry concedes a daft freekick in a dangerous position. Needlessly trying to steal the ball away from Aguero who was backing into him. Reyes curls the freekick in low, but Cech makes a difficult save look very easy.
Alex steps out to close down Forlan and fouls the Uruguayan. Freekick, 35 yards out. Simao takes and real uncertainty in the Chelsea defence. Cech comes out and gets nowhere near it and inadvertently takes out Drogba who was the one who made the clearance.
Good move by Ancelotti. Essien, on a booking, is taken off and Michael Ballack comes on.
Substitution Michael Essien Michael Ballack
Very optimistic shouts for a penalty from Atletico and Aguero. Chelsea needlessly give the ball away in their half. Reyes, anonymous in the second half picks out Aguero who narrowly fails to make contact, is slightly brushed by Alex and stumbles. The referee barely flinched.
Lovely work by Malouda, knocks the ball past Assuncao who can only foul the French winger and concede a freekick. Lampard's delivery misses everyone in the area.
The second half has continued in similar fashion to the first. Neither side really dominating, and neither is really threatening a breakthrough.
Unsurprising change. Sinama-Pongolle has been fairly poor tonight, and on comes Sergio Aguero-son in law of Diego Maradona, top young striker and Chelsea target.
Substitution Florent Sinama-Pongolle Sergio Agüero
Kalou has Drogba and Malouda well placed, but his throughball is badly overhit.
Drogba wins a freekick in a decent area, though his fall was slightly exaggerated. Drogba lines it up and his low shot almost deceives Asenjo at the near post, but the promising Spanish stopper tips it onto the post.
Well, Simao's freekick gets a nick off Drogba for a corner. The corner is then headed over by Pablo.
Essien is rather harshly pulled up for a high foot, and he then gives another freekick away on Simao. The Ghanaian must be beginning to tread on thin ice
Well now everyone is returning refreshed for an intriguing second half. Chelsea get us underway!
Half Time. Well, it's nil nil and perhaps deservedly so. Atletico however have looked lively, whereas Chelsea look in second gear. Back in fifteen minutes.
Cech punches a corner clear, which lands at Reyes' feet 30 yards out and he fires aimlessly over the bar.
WHOA! Close from Lampard. Kalou and Joe Cole combine on the break to put Lampard in space 25 yards out. His effort fizzes narrowly wide of Asenjo's goal, great attempt though.
Kalou is needlessly caught offside as he moves too early onto Malouda's throughball.
Atletico may be dominating the game, but Chelsea's defence is hardly looking stretched. Alex and Terry have barely given Sinama-Pongolle a sniff.
Wild effort from Cleber Santana. Reyes' cheeky backflick finds him free 30 yards out, and he promptly fires it high and wide.
Simao's lovely reverse pass puts Forlan one on one with Belletti. The Brazilian puts the ball behind for a corner, which is cleared by Chelsea.
Good possession football from Atletico, who are beginning to dictate the game a little.
That man Reyes plays a very clever throughball to Santana, which cuts out two Chelsea defenders, but the midfielder is offside as he fires into Cech's sidenetting.
Well Reyes is rolling back the years here a little. Wonderful little trick gets him away from Malouda, who pulls him back to concede a freekick.
Excellent work by Belletti. First time challenge on Simao is excellently timed, and he wins a freekick.
Yellow Card Paulo Assunçao
Really poor aerial challenge from Assuncao on Ashley Cole earns him a booking. Basically jumps into Cole with his arm pushing into the left-back.
Now it's Chelsea's turn, and thats probably the best move of the game so far. Joe Cole's wonderful backflick finds his namesake Ashley. His deep cross finds Kalou, who is rising high and sends his header narrowly wide of Asenjo's left-hand post.
Chelsea just have to be mindful. Atletico are looking comfortable here, and are trying to test Cech as Forlan sends a left footed effort high and wide, and its going even higher and wider.
Simao cuts in from the left flank and sends a curling effort high and wide of Cech's goal.
Ooooo. Close close close call. Forlan-dropping deep to dictate things-plays a lovely throughball to Sinama-Pongolle who is JUST offside, though it's marginal.
Yellow Card Reyes
Naughty Jose. Atletico look well placed to put some pressure on Chelsea after Forlan's lovely first time pass finds Simao. The tricky winger finds Reyes, who loses the ball and then fouls Ashley Cole to earn himself a booking.
This is a very good game, both sides are on the attack and its looking very promising for the next 65 minutes. Chelsea perhaps more threatening, but Atletico are definitely playing some lovely football.
Kalou threatens to break in on goal, but the pacey Ivorian is well challenged by Pablo.
GREAT EFFORT, and a great save too. Reyes nonchalantly cuts in from the right flank and advances to the Chelsea box, and on his left foot curls a dipping effort towards the top right hand corner of Cech's goal, but the Chelsea keeper paws it away wonderfully for a corner.
Chelsea look to build a decent attack, before Malouda dwells on possession too long when well placed and loses the ball.
Yellow Card Michael Essien
Great route one counterattack from Chelsea. Cech's kick finds Drogba, who brings the ball down and lays it off to Joe Cole who wins a freekick. Lampard fails to beat the first man though
Booking for Michael Essien, which considering his style of play and position in this Chelsea team, is big early on. Kalou carelessly concedes possession, and Essien cynically fouls Reyes as he was breaking clear.
Chelsea are starting to get some joy down the Atletico left flank. Simao is not covering back, exposing Antonio Lopez. Kalou puts Belletti in, but his cross can only find Asenjo's grateful arms.
Great dribbling from Lampard-something he is not noted for. His cross evades every Blue shirt in the Atletico area.
Wonderful challenge by Alex. Simao and Forlan combine well, and the Portuguese pushes the ball past the Brazilian, only to see him hook the ball away for a throw with a sliding challenge.
Chelsea enjoy some neat possession in the Atletico half. Malouda, Joe Cole and Lampard combine well, but Lampards through ball finds Ashley Cole offside.
First real threat from Chelsea. Awful clearance lands straight to Malouda on the edge of the box, his stabbed effort ricochets off Perea to Essien. He evades one challenge, and manages to poke the ball through to Drogba who fires his left-footed shot wide of Asenjo's goal.
I must say, I'd never have picked Jose Antonio Reyes as a right winger. But he's started brightly. The right-footed Simao features on the left flank.
Excellent early effort from Diego Forlan, 30 yards from goal on his weaker foot and he sends an effort narrowly wide of Cech's goal.
Clash of the Arsenal old boys as Ashley Cole fouls Reyes. Drogba can only clear Simao's excellent freekick over the bar for a corner, which is headed behind for a goalkick.
Both side's have settled quickly-enjoying brief spells in each other's half.
And we're off!!
Seems both teams will be lining up 4-4-2 with a diamond-English fans will undoubtedly remember Liverpool old-boy Sinama-Pongolle and ex-Arsenal man Jose Antonio Reyes who are turning out for Atletico these days.
Well, worst defence in Spain faces best defence in England-there's a stat and a half! Should see some goals here for sure.
Next up is group leaders Chelsea who line-up: Cech, Belletti, Alex, Terry, Ashley Cole, Malouda, Essien, Joe Cole, Lampard, Drogba, Kalou. Subs: Hilario, Ivanovic, Carvalho, Ballack, Deco, Sturridge, Anelka.
