It's all over here at Pretoria. Italy have been defeated 3-0 by Brazil. Adios.
Italy desperately need a goal here now. One goal would out them through to the semis. Yet at the moment it is Brazil who have possession.
USa are leading Egypt 3-0. So as things stand, the Americans are going through on more goals scored. Egypt, Italy and the USA all have the same goal difference.
Substitution Ramires Josué
Kaka!! The former AC Milan playmaker has been relatively quiet in the second half but he came so close to making it 4-0 to Brazil with a great effort. Just inches wide of Buffon's goal.
Rossiiii!! Long range audacious effort that was hit way off target. This probably sums up Italy's unimaginative display so far in the match.
Substitution Gilberto Silva Kleberson
Italy are distinctly lacking in creativity and imagination as their midfielders are (metaphorically) scratching their head trying to find a way past the Brazilian backline.
Yellow Card Andrea Dossena
Brazil go on the counter as Kaka feeds Robinho with the ball. The old "New Pele" does manage to befool an Italian defender but his shot is blocked. Robinho has been a star in this game.
What a chance for Italy! Julio Cesar is left stranded far away from goal outside the Brazil penalty area and the ball eventually comes to Pepe. But by the time the Udinese winger had taken his shot, Cesar was back in position. He needn't have rushed though, as it was a defender who blocked Pepe's shot. This should have been the chance that Italy struck gold with.
USA are winning 1-0 against Egypt. This implies that as the results in the two matches stand, Italy are going out of the Confederations Cup. They desperately need to find a goal from somewhere.
Kaka takes a shot...just wide!!! Brazil are starting to come back into their groove now...
Rossi!!! The Villarreal striker takes a left footed shot from a long distance but Julio Cesar is upto the mark.
Substitution Luca Toni Alberto Gilardino
Robinho again...Runs with the ball at his feet, gives a measured square pass to Luis Fabiano...oh, the ball is stolen from Fabiano's feet and is cleared from danger.
Robinho!!!!!! What a miss! Kaka coolly passes the ball to Robinho but he is dragged wide by Chiellini and the Manchester City player is forced to shoot...and he shoots wide.
Brazil get a free-kick in a very dangerous position just in front of the Italy penalty box. Can they make it 4-0 and condemn Italy to more misery? Santos takes the free-kick.......................Buffon needn't even jump. It was that high!
Yellow Card Giorgio Chiellini
Italy need to score quickly if they aim to stage any dramatic comeback. They must also make sure that they do not concede any goal.
Substitution Riccardo Montolivo Simone Pepe
The second half starts.....
It's half-time here in Pretoria now and Brazil lead 3-0. Can Italy stage an almost impossible comeback? If not, then they would have to hope that result in the match between Egypt and the USA go their way.
Own Goal Andrea Dossena
Brasillllllll!!! It is all over here in Pretotia, Brazil have scored their third goal of the match. A swift counter-attacking move sees Robinho get the ball on the left side of the midfield and send in a cross intended for someone in a yellow shirt. But Dossena tries to intercept and puts the ball in his own goal. It is 3-0 now to Brazil. Match over. Is it competition over too for Italy?
Goal Luis Fabiano
Luis Fabiano to Robinho, Robinho to Kaka, Kaka to Luis Fabiano and Fabiano scores! GOL! GOL! GOL! Italy are busted! Fabiano starts the ball, Robinho does the running, Kaka possesses the intelligence to pass the ball and Fabiano has the accuracy. 2-0 to Brazil.
Italy coach Marcelo Lippi has made an instant change. He has pulled out Vicenzo Iaquinto and brought on Giuseppe Rossi, the Villarreal striker who changed the Italians' fortunes in their first match of the Confederations Cup.
Substitution Vincenzo Iaquinta Giuseppe Rossi
GOL!GOL!GOL! Brazil score! It was all so inevitable. Maicon gets the ball on the right side and sends Luis Fabiano through who is played onside and the Sevilla striker makes no mistake this time. The Italian defence is ripped apart by Brazil's incisive football and it is now 1-0 to Brazil. Could this be the goal that sends Italy back to their homeland from South Africa?
Goal Luis Fabiano
Chances come thick and fast for Brazil. First Lucio skips past the Italian backline to lash in a low cross that the Italian backline just manages to fend off for a corner. From the corner, Lucio takes his shot but hits it straight at Gianluigi Buffon. He receives the rebound but this time mishits it and the ball eventually falls to Melo but the Brazilian fails to keep his shot on target. Nervy couple of minutes for Italy.
Luis Fabiano should have made it 1-0 to Brazil. A brilliant centre is whipped in but the Sevilla striker manages to hit it wide. The Italian defence is losing its cohesiveness at the moment.
Camoranese shoots...just over the Brazil crossbar. The ball bounces and bounces inside the Brazil penalty area and eventually comes to Camoranese's feet just outside the Brazil penalty area. The Juventus midfielder shoots but must be disapponted to see his shot go just over the crossbar.
Kakaaaaa!! A wild shot from 35 yards out drags Buffon to making no save. Sails over the bar. Was a rather too ambitious of a shot from the Madrid player.
What a mistake! Chiellini miscontrols the ball inside the Italian penalty area that allows a Brazil cross to be whipped in. Fortunately for the Juventus central defender and the Italian team, there was no yellow shirt at the end of the cross.
Substitution Juan Luisao
Offside!!! Vicenzo Iaquinta is sent through on but the Italian striker is flagged for offside. Italy are not getting to create many chances and seem to lack that flair and imagination in midfield.
Whoosh!!!!! Gilberto Silva finds Kaka from his own half and the Real Madrid playmaker carves in a defensive splitting through ball that Luis Fabiano fails to collect properly. Had he been able to control the exquisite pass properly, then he would have been through on goal in a one-on-one situation.
Robinho!! Long shot shot hit with venom indeed...But Buffon makes no mistake with the save. Brazil are playing their usual passing game that the Italian midfield is unable to cope with at the moment.
Kaka!!!!! An uncharacteristic defensive error sees an unmarked Robinho get the ball inside the Italy penalty area. He squares it to Kaka, who side-footed shot is blocked. Brazil are getting into a comfort zone now.
Luis Fabianooooo! First real chance of the game for either side but Buffon is up to the occasion to deny the Sevilla striker's long range effort.
Brazil did come close first but Italy have since snatched back the initiative. They have had two successive corner kicks but have failed to do anything concrete from them. The Italians are playing with urgency.
Brazil are hogging the possession in the opening couple of minutes but they are passing the ball in and around the midfield area, almost lazily.
The match starts...Italy are playing Luca Toni upfront. Brazil are playing with their regular starters with Robinho, Kaka and Luis Fabiano all starting...
