Sporting Clube de Goa kept their cool and edged out Dempo SC 2-2 (3-2 after extra time) in order to book a berth in the final of the Federation Cup where they shall face Churchill Brothers on Saturday.

Boima Karpeh gave Sporting the lead on the half-hour mark, but Tolgay Ozbey cancelled it out in the 72nd minute. In the 83rd minute, Arturo Garcia converted a penalty-kick to reclaim the momentum in Sporting's favour, but Haroon Amiri restored parity only four minutes later. However, it was the second penalty strike by Garcia in the 107th minute, which proved out to be decisive and helped them progress.

Mathew Gonsalves replaced Gonzalo Hinojal Neila in Sporting's defense, while Arthur Papas made two changes in his starting eleven with Tolgay Ozbey and Alwyn George being handed a start ahead of Jeje Lalpekhlua and Romeo Fernandes.

Ogba Kalu Nnanna had the first chance of the evening as he shot straight into the hands of Dempo keeper Laxmikant Kattimani in the fourth minute, while Ravi Kumar deflected wide Tolgay Ozbey's attempt at the other end in the 11th minute.

The two teams struggled to gain a foothold in the tie as they battled in the midfield for possession.

Narayan Das’ poor throw-in was flicked on to Boima Karpeh by Victorino Fernandes and the Ivorian-born Australian shrugged off Simon Colosimo's challenge before slotting it past Kattimani at his right post.

Kumar pulled off a brilliant save to deny Beto from a direct free-kick from just outside the box in the 43rd minute, after the Sporting goalkeeper was deemed to have handled the ball outside the area while dealing with a cross by Peter Carvalho.

After the break, Sporting missed a gem of a chance in the 53rd minute as Victorino missed a Pratesh Shirodkar cross from the right and Rowllin Borges, too, toe-poked his effort wide at the far post while all he had to do was tap-in in an open net.

Kalu released Beevan D’Mello but the latter couldn’t control the awkward bounce as it allowed the Dempo custodian to clear the danger in the 71st minute.

The very next minute, Ozbey scored the equalizer as he slammed his effort through the legs of the Sporting custodian after being played in by Amiri.

Beto could have seen his effort hit the back of the net had it not been for Joyner Lourenco’s block before Amiri was deemed to have handled the ball inside his box from a corner-kick and from the resultant spot-kick, Arturo Garcia converted to put his side into the lead again.

Two minutes later, Beto saw his header go wide from an Amiri cross from the left. However, in the 87th minute, Amiri received Beto's return pass on the left and found the back of the net to make amends for his mistake earlier in the tie.

The match moved into extra time as the teams were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time and it was an excellent save from Kumar to deny Beto from almost the same sort of angle from which Tolgay scored from earlier in the match. This turned to be the definind moment before Sporting earned yet another penalty.

Holicharan Narzary brought down Shirodkar as the winger was through on goal. Garcia stepped up and put it in the back of the net for the second time  to send the Flaming Oranje into the final.
