Tolgay Ozbey scored twice on debut for the Golden Eagles as they impressed in the victory over the second division side...

Dempo SC recorded a 3-0 win over United Sikkim on Friday evening at the MDS Stadium, Kerala in their group D tie of the Federation Cup. Beto opened the scoring and a brace by debutant Tolgay Ozbey sealed the three points for them.

United Sikkim assistant manager Bhupendra Khewa named Nima Tamang on the bench. Meanwhile his counterpart Arthur Papas made wholesale changes to his line-up with Jeje Lalpekhlua, Peter Carvalho, Selwyn Fernandes, Romeo Fernandes and Debabrata Roy being dropped in favour of Haroon Amiri, Tolgay Ozbey, Alwyn George, Prabir Das and Holicharan Narzary.

It was Dempo who started better of the two sides and off a quick counterattack in the sixth minute, Cifford Miranda was through on goal but goalkeeper Dibyendu Sarkar was guilty of coming out of his area and was rightly booked.

The Golden Eagles saw more of the ball and never allowed the opposition to settle with their high pressing game. The goal came in the 23rd minute as Beto slotted home from close range. Clifford’s free-kick was cleared by the Sikkim defense and the ball went as far as Alwyn George who found Beto inside the box with the Brazilian providing the finishing touch.

Just after the half hour mark, Beto found George on the edge of the box with the latter’s effort going way wide of the target.

The Snow Lions’ only effort in the first half was when Sukhwinder Singh’s trademark long range shot went sailing over the bar.

Before the end of the half-time whistle, Ozbey doubled the lead for the Goan outfit after he was set up on the edge of the box by George. His left footed diagonal finish didn’t give goalkeeper Dibyendu Sarkar any chance.

The second half began in a similar manner for the Goan side as they came close to scoring their third but George failed to convert Haroon Amiri's cutback.

Dempo though added their third goal of the game in the 63rd minute when Tolgay Ozbey scored his second of the game. The former Mohun Bagan forward took the ball from the edge of the United Sikkim area, turned two defenders inside out to fire home.

United Sikkim tried to reduce the margin in the dying stages of the match but in vain. Jiten Rai fired over from just outside the box, while Sukhwinder headed wide.

That turned out to be the last chance of the game as Dempo registered a confortable win over their north eastern counterparts.
