Sporting Clube de Goa have set the tone already as they requested the All India Football Federation (AIFF) to have organized the final fixtures of group B, where all the four teams have a realistic chance of qualifying for the semi-finals, to be held simultaneously.

Their request has gone down the drain as the organizers didn’t think of such a possibility or best chose to ignore it as not many states showcased their interest in hosting the tournament in the first place.

Sporting need to win their game against the north eastern outfit and hope that Bengaluru FC do not beat East Bengal in the second match which will kick-off in the evening. East Bengal coach Armando Colaco has mentioned that he could possibly field youngsters if they do not have a chance of qualifying as they need Rangdajied and Sporting to play out a draw.

It’s a double-edged sword for the Goan outfit. They would hope to win and thereby leave the rest on East Bengal hoping that the Kolkata outfits field their competitive side and not that of second choice players.

That aside, coach Oscar Bruzon has ensured that his players put in a top performance in the tournament and have been one of the most entertaining side.

They would hope that Boima Karpeh and attacking players like Victorino Fernandes, Beevan D’Mello and Obga Kalu put in a top performance in order to win against the blues from Shillong.

Rangdajied United have held their own in the two matches as they denied East Bengal and Bengaluru FC a chance to snap three points against them. Prior to the tournament, they were looked upon as a side against whom the opposition would look to score maximum goals in order to boost their goal difference, their defense has been the highlight in their group having conceded a mere two goals against some of the best attack in the country. In the absence of Subrata Paul, goalkeeper Surjay Pariyar has performed well.

“I am very happy with the way we played so far in the event. We will do our best and our goalkeepers learnt a lot from Subrata Paul during his stint with us,” said coach Santosh Kashyap.

Fatigue could be an important factor as Kashyap has fielded the same starting eleven in the two matches.

Kim Yong and Yohei Iwasaki have in particular been in good nick for the north eastern side. David Nghaite is yet to light up the tournament with his pace and Kashyap would hope that the young winger comes into his own on Tuesday.

An intriguing battle is on the cards at the MDS Stadium, Manjeri.
