Gerhard Tremmel Flop of the Match

First called into action by a Kozlov cross 11 minutes in, doing well to hold onto a delivery that came at him with considerable pace. Had deputised well for regular No.1 Michel Vorm, but that was thrown out of the window after he conceded a needless penalty late on.

  • Jordi Amat

    Jordi Amat

Was easily beaten at times at the back but did make a crucial intervention on the half-hour mark, when he nudged Popov off the ball inside the danger area.

  • Neil Taylor

    Neil Taylor

Made a timely block in the opening stages and went on to become a prominent feature both in defence and attack, where his crosses into the box presented the home side with one of their most direct threats. Let the likes of Popov and Khubulov run in behind far too often, however.

  • Chico

    Chico

Got into the rhythm of making regular clearances from the very first moments and each one seemed to increase in importance. At one stage, the Spaniard even screamed with pain after stretching heavily to stop a cross from getting to Cisse. Was equally adept on the ball.

  • Dwight Tiendalli

    Dwight Tiendalli

Flew forward at will down the right and delivered a similar standard of crosses to his counterpart on the opposite flank. Was less impressive at the back, however, especially when he was beaten for pace by Melgarejo in the first half and could only receive a booking for pulling him to the ground. Could easily have seen red and was taken off on the hour mark.

  • Jonjo Shelvey

    Jonjo Shelvey

Clearly his side’s main playmaker for the night, as well as a tough tackler when out of possession. Finished very poorly indeed, though, despite a mature display in other departments. Tried too much at times, however, especially when naively giving the ball away in the dying embers.

  • Michu

    3.50

    Michu

Showed superb flair and technique from the very early stages, with his passing simply masterful at times. Played very deep and was his side's main instigator in the final third, before being rewarded with a classy goal to open the scoring.

  • Nathan Dyer

    Nathan Dyer

His pace was very difficult for the Russians to deal with down the right-hand side all night long and he was not afraid to beat his man when needed. Showed poor decision-making, though, especially when it came to finding his team-mates.

  • José Cañas

    José Cañas

Developed a fluent passing rhythm from the off but sent the occasional long ball astray. Still adapting to his new team-mates.

  • Pozuelo

    3.00

    Pozuelo

Showed a good work-rate and an even better touch, with some exquisite passes also on show in bursts. His passing was never better than during his assist for Michu's opener. A promising display from the young Spaniard.

  • Wilfried Bony

    Wilfried Bony

Received the ball often during the opening half hour but did little with it. Grew into the game slowly thereafter, with some typically fluent link-up play. Underwhelmed on the whole, however, being taken off in the second half.

Substitutions

    Ángel Rangel

Replaced Tiendalli after half-time and showed promising signs of linking up with Dyer down the right-hand side.

    Roland Lamah

Came on for Dyer in the closing stages after Swansea's opener had put them in a much more comfortable position.

  • Álvaro

    Álvaro

Was introduced in place of Bony to inject some urgency into Michael Laudrup's side in the second half. Managed to get a shot away at goal but was relatively quiet as Michu stole the show up front.

  • Aleksandr Belenov

    2.00

    Aleksandr Belenov

Was only really called upon once - and failed to deliver. Rushing out to deny Michu in the second half, the 27-year-old failed to intimidate the Spaniard and was well beaten as a result.

  • Igor Armas

    Igor Armas

Committed a heavy challenge on Bony early on, which seemed to set the tone for his night. Duly did the same thing to Michu on 40 minutes and entered the referee’s book as a result. Contrived to also give the ball away infrequently.

  • Xandão

    2.50

    Xandão

Was not overly threatened but did his job effectively when he was placed under pressure, clearing the danger with significant authority when needed. Also threatened occasionally going forward.

  • Aleksey Kozlov

    3.00

    Aleksey Kozlov

Thrashed the ball over the bar just moments in to signal his attacking intent from right-back. His next venture forward came just 10 minutes later and he proved a thorn in Swansea’s side throughout the 90 minutes, while also defending ably.

  • L. Melgarejo

    L. Melgarejo

His first real involvement saw the Paraguayan sprint in behind Tiendalli and force the Swansea man to haul him down and receive a booking. Did little of note aside from that, though, and was substituted in the 62nd minute.

  • Charles Kaboré

    Charles Kaboré

Pounced on loose balls and was another player to show considerable skill throughout. Also displayed competence with his passing and made no notable errors during what was a lively performance.

  • Maksim Zhavnerchik

    Maksim Zhavnerchik

Was dangerous down the left-hand side but petered out somewhat after showing plenty of promise in the opening stages.

  • Artem Fidler

    Artem Fidler

Produced an adept defensive performance for the most part, although he was clumsy in the challenge on occasion. Made a fool of himself late on, however, as he burst forward but sent his shot straight into the stands.

  • Ivelin Popov

    3.00

    Ivelin Popov

Found space with some excellent movement, particularly after runs from deep into the box and down the right flank. Also showed significant acrobatic ability at times, producing some unorthodox passes in midair. Came off after 75 minutes.

  • Arsen Khubulov

    Arsen Khubulov

Showed plenty of pace down the right-hand side and delivered good crosses, too. His touch let him down on occasion but it did not stop him from troubling Taylor and co. with increasing regularity.

  • Djibril Cissé

Djibril Cissé Top of the Match

Was full of energy from the off and, not dissimilar to Samuel Eto’o during his time in Russia, dropped deep to feed those ahead of him for the majority of the action. Created several chances for his side and waited for his chance before duly taking it after dispatching a late penalty.

    Vladislav Ignatiev

Was introduced in the second half but failed to make a huge impact, one threatening burst down the right flank aside. Did contribute through crosses and set-pieces, however.

  • G. Bucur

    G. Bucur

Came on for Melgarejo in the 62nd minute but could only influence the game slightly, though his presence helped his side force a late equaliser.

  • Ibrahima

    Ibrahima

Replaced Popov with 15 minutes to go and threatened ever so slightly, before doing real damage by breaking through and forcing a penalty in the last minute.
