Rangdajied United and Mumbai FC played out a 1-1 draw in an I-League match played at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Shillong on Sunday evening. Yohei Iwasaki (19') opened the scoring for the home team while Yusif Yakubu (36') netted the equaliser for Khalid Jamil's men.

Santosh Kashyap brought back Manandeep Singh to the starting line-up after his exclusion in the last match against Pune FC, while Khalid Jamil icluded Ahmad Hatifie in his first team.

The game started at a good pace, with Mumbai claiming a corner in the second minute of the match. However, Nicholas Rodrigues failed to keep his shot on target after receiving the ball on the edge of the box.

The first goalmouth opening of the match came in the 15th minute when Edmar Figueira went on a brilliant run down the middle of the pitch and supplied the ball to Manandeep Singh. However, the striker failed to reach the ball with Nidhin Lal coming off his line to collect it.

Only four minutes later Rangdajied took the lead, courtesy of a brilliant strike by Yohei Iwasaki. After Edmar's shot was cleared away for a corner, Munmun Lugun sent in a pin-point corner kick and Iwasaki made no mistake in nodding it home.

The travellers almost got an immediate chance to level the score but a powerful free-kick taken by Nicholas Rodrigues from outside the box went just over the crossbar.

In the 25th minute, the hosts went very close to doubling their lead when Manandeep got the ball after a poor clearance by the Mumbai defense, but his shot from an acute angle was saved brilliantly by Nidhin Lal.

However, parity was restored in the 36th minute, against the run of play when Yusif Yakubu, the veteran striker went on a daunting run from the left and dribbled past two Rangdajied defenders before slotting the ball calmly into the net, giving goalkeeper Subrata Paul no chance.

Iwasaki, the man in-form had one ambitious effort on target from 30 yards-out in the dying minutes of the first half, but an alert Nidhin Lal was on hand to hold the ball safely.

In the second half, both the teams misplaced a few passes and lost possession under pressure. The first real opening of the half came in the 66th minute, when Edmar headed an Eugeneson Lyngdoh corner-kick towards the goal but it hit the woodwork and went out.

Only three minutes later, N.P. Pradeep unleashed a powerful shot, but the ball rattled the framework and went out much to the agony of the experienced midfielder.

Late drama unfurled when Sandesh Jhingan was given his marching orders for elbowing a Rangdajied United player. However, the hosts failed to take advantage of the numerical advantage and the match ended with a 1-1 scoreline.
