Ashley Westwood's side will look to maintain their lead on top of the table as they host the Kolkata outfit...
Bengaluru FC will look to continue their sublime form at home as they play host East Bengal on Sunday at the Bangalore Football Stadium.
Of the seven matches they have played on home soil, Bengaluru have dropped points only on two occasions when they were held by Mohun Bagan and Sporting Clube de Goa.
Bengaluru FC have signed three players, namely namely goalkeeper Soram Poirei, midfielder Randhan Meitei and defender Shankar S, on-loan until the end of the season. Coach Ashley Westwood has however stated that the youngsters will be assessed before they can make it to a highly competitive first team.
Sunil Chhetri, by his own admission, has claimed that he is in the form of his life this term having scored six goals in the last three matches. What would concern Westwood is the absence of John Johnson who is suspended for the tie.
“We know we are the form side but all we need to do is doing exactly what we have been. If you have to be winners, you need to be consistent,” said Westwood.
On the other hand, East Bengal were made to work hard for a point against Salgaocar FC in round 14. Armando Colaco’s side have played three matches less than their opponents and do have a chance of closing the gap should they pick full points from those.
With no suspensions to worry about, the Red and Gold are crippled with a few injuries, most notably to skipper Mehtab Hossain and centre-back Uga Okpara.
"We have beaten them (Bengaluru FC) 3-1 earlier in the season. We have to win this match somehow, because otherwise they will move further away from us,” said Colaco.
“Bengaluru are a good team and in some fine form. I don’t know what will unfold but what I can tell you is that it will be a fantastic game to watch,” he added.
East Bengal trail the hosts by 12 points and Colaco pointed out that "[the] good thing is that they (Bengaluru) played more games and we played less games. That is the reason why we will try for three points. If not, at least for one point because they will be losing two points."
It promises to be an exciting encounter with the home side’s good form and the Kolkata outfit’s star-studded squad going head-to-head.
