After securing their first away win over Salgaocar FC earlier this week, Bengaluru FC will look to keep the momentum going when they face Shillong Lajong FC in a round 12 I-League fixture.

In their very first season in the top division, Bengaluru have certainly made an impact as they are level on points at the top of the table with  Salgaocar FC and Pune FC with 18 points.

“We are not expected to win the league. Success is an added bonus for us. That said, we play every game and cup wanting to win it,” stated coach Ashley Westwood.

“We don’t need a special occasion to realise the advantage we have with him on our team. He knows Indian football really well and it always helps,” he said of his team's assistant coach Pradhyum Reddy who led Shillong Lajong to promotion in 2011.

Lajong, meanwhile, are coming into the game on the back of a six-game unbeaten streak, a pattern that coach Thangboi Singto says will hold his team in good stead for the big game against Bengaluru.

“Bengaluru FC are doing well and the win over Salgaocar will only work as extra motivation for them. However, we have been unbeaten in six games and believe in ourselves,” he remarked.

Singto also spoke of the importance of staying in the top half of the table for which they will need to be at their best against Bengaluru FC.

“It is a very important game to stay in the top half. Bengaluru FC is a good team. We have to be at our best to beat them. Preparation is good. Team morale is high and all the players will give their 100%.”

Shillong Lajong's Trinidad and Tobago striker Cornell Glen has been among the league's top scorers and Singto will be banking on him to fire against a team who have not yet lost a game at home (besides Pune FC). Lajong, on the other hand, share an unbeaten away record in the league along with East Bengal.

“Shillong haven't been beaten in six games and pose a good threat from Glen. It should be a good, entertaining game,” Westwood concluded.
