Santosh Kashyap masterminded Rangdajied United’s impressive 2-0 victory over Mohun Bagan in a round twelve fixture of the I-League which was played at the Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata on Sunday. Manandeep Singh (22’) and Eugeneson Lyngdoh (66’) scored for the north eastern brigade to register their first victory in the current campaign.

Mohun Bagan made one change to the team that started against Mohammedan Sporting with Adil Khan making his way in. Meanwhile Rangdajied United dropped David Ngaihte and Joychandra Singh with Munmun Lugun and Pratik Chaudhari replacing them.

It was the home side who had the first chance in the second minute when Subrata Paul’s poor clearance went straight to Odafa Okolie who supplied the ball to Eric Muranda who was slow on the turn and the opportunity got wasted in the end.

In the 13th minute, Bagan should have taken the lead as Denson Devadas’s corner-kick was headed wide of the far post by Echezona Anyichie despite being unmarked inside the box.

The visitors surged ahead against the run of play midway through the first half as Yohwei Iwasaki dribbled past a few Bagan players before sending in a through-ball for Manandeep Singh who provided the finishing touch which left goalkeeper Sandip Nandy no chance whatsoever to make a save.

Odafa Okolie had one real chance to level the score however Subrata Paul did well to come off his line to clear the impending danger in the 28th minute.

The north eastern outfit were dominating possession in the middle of the park and weren’t allowing the home team to maneuver moves.

Karim Bencherifa introduced Sathyan Sabeeth in place of the disappointing Muranda at the start of the second half hoping to add fresh impetus to their attack.

The first chance after the break fell to Manandeep who took a sharp turn as he foxed Aibor Khongjee and his attempt from inside the box saw Nandy make a splendid save to keep his side in the tie.

Before the hour mark, Tomba Singh saw his header being saved by Nandy while at the other end, Odafa was once again denied by Paul as he snatched the ball from the Nigerian’s feet at the edge of the box.

Bagan’s best chance to comeback was squandered in the 63rd minute by their skipper Okolie after Katsumi Yusa had done well to set him up but the former failed to slot the ball home.

Rangdajied doubled their lead in the 66th minute through Eugeneson Lyngdoh, who was unmarked inside the six-yard box, as he latched on to a back-heel by Manandeep to do the needful.

Paul was at his best as he pulled off a top save by diving to his left from an Odafa shot in the 79th minute.

Thereafter Sabeeth had a chance to make a mark but he failed to connect the volley after being set up by Odafa.

Paul was at hand to once again thwart Odafa’s hopes of pulling one back as he, at full stretch, denied the Nigerian’s header in the 85th minute.  The game ended with the same score-line as Rangdajied United bagged three points from the fixture.
