Shillong Lajong ended their winless run at home after Brazilian Ulliams struck twice, from the penalty spot in the 30th minute and the winner in the 75th minute while Josimar da Silva had equalised for the away side in the 40th minute.

The Reds missed the services of Cornell Glen and Taisuke Matsugae due to injury while Mohammedan Sporting started with the dangerous duo of Tolgay Ozbey and Josimar up front, ably supported by Penn Orji while Luciano Sabrosa had recovered from injury to helm the defense.

The game started at a frenetic pace with Josimar involved in the thick of action. His lofted effort missed the far corner in the third minute after getting the better of Jibon Singh.

A few minutes later, Subash Singh tested Ashok Singh in goal but the latter pulled off a top save after Seikhohao Tuboi did the dirty work in the build-up.

The home side continued to pile pressure of Mohammedan rearguard as they won a few cornerkicks but nothing substantial came off it. Uilliams had an effort which went wide after having done well to go past three defenders midway through the first half.

The home side took the lead in the 30th minute when a handball inside the box didn’t leave referee much option but to point to the spot and Ulliams made no mistake sending the keeper the wrong way to open the scoring.

Mohammedan Sporting, clearly shaken after conceding the goal, found their equalizer five minutes before the stroke of half-time as Josimar steered the ball home in a quick counterattack with Tolgay Ozbey being the provider.

The Kolkata outfit could have taken the lead when goalkeeper Vinay Singh rushed out to punch a corner-kick and missed it completely only for Tolgay to head it wide from point blank range.

Three minutes before the half hour mark, Lajong could have retaken the lead as Subash Singh could only strike the side netting after being clean through with only the goal keeper to beat.

It took a brilliant Uilliams goal in the 75th minute to settle the tie as a throw-in found the Brazilian down the right flank who had the time to place it brilliantly into the far corner with his left foot giving the goalkeeper no chance even at full stretch.

Instead of Mohammedan Sporting trying to look for the equaliser again, it was Lajong who were dominant and could have extended the lead further as both Boithang Haokip and Subash Singh went close with both failing to hit the target after going in one-on-one positions with the goalkeeper.

Subash Singh did manage to beat the Mohammedan Sporting custodian only to see it cleared off the line by Sabrosa in the 84th minute.

The two goals from the fantastic Uilliams seemed to be enough to give Shillong Lajong their first home win of the season while Mohammedan Sporting will have to find their form yet again.
