East Bengal welcome Salgaocar at the Kalyani stadium hoping to cease their peerless start to the season

Round eight of the I-League sees Kolkata outfit East Bengal battle it out with early pace setters Salgaocar FC at the Kalyani stadium, Kolkata on Friday.

East Bengal head into this game with a morale boosting win over Bengaluru FC. Having tasted defeat to Dempo SC and Kuwait SC (AFC Cup) in their last couple of fixtures, Marcos Falopa's side will look to continue their good form against league leaders Salgaocar FC.

The home side lie ninth in the league but due to their AFC Cup commintments have played three games less than Salgaocar, a win for the Kolkata outfit could see them jump as high as fifth if the other results go their way. They face no injuries of any sort and head into the game with a full squad.

“We are expecting a difficult challenge from Salgaocar. They are a technically good side side with a strong defence and midfield. We need to treat them with caution and due respect,”
elucidated the Brazilian coach at the pre-match press conference.

He will be glad to welcome Uga Okpara back from suspension while Harmanjot Singh Khabra is expected to get the nod in midfield.

A key perspective heading into this game will be the unity of East Bengal's defense in keeping out Darryl Duffy, the league's top scorer. Ranjan Chowdhury, East Bengal's assitant coach has revealed they have devised a form of zonal marking to prevent the hitman running amok and adding to his tally of six goals this term.

The Greens on the other hand will look to continue their impressive start to the season having lost just one game and winning three out of their four away games this season. Coach Derrick Perreira saw his side bounce back from the 2-1 defeat against Mohun Bagan as the Goan's overcame United SC 2-0 on matchday seven.

The away team have the best defense in the league and will no doubt find that insoirational as the seek to block out one of the league's deadliest, blossoming attacks through Chidi Edeh and James Moga.

East Bengal's title contennders' credentials will be put to task as Salgaocar look to set records straight.
The Diwali festival couldn't have been lit up any better way, as these two title challengers look to set the firecrackers alight in a fiesty, memorable affair.
