Sporting Club de Goa were defeated 1-3 at home by Mohammedan Sporting in an I-League encounter that took place at the Duler Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Boima Karpeh's 58th minute strike cancelled out Josimar's goal in the 32nd minute. However, Ajay Singh gave the visitor's the lead in the 71st minute while Josimar added another in the final two minutes of normal time.

The home side made one change as Rovan Pereira replaces Jovel Martins while the visitors coach, Bola Masood, named an unchanged first eleven which includes two former Sporting Clube de Goa players Luciano Sobrosa and Ashok Singh.

Cajetan Fernandes made the first move in the opening minute but the Mohammedan goalkeeper Ashok Singh swept the ball off his feet while the hosts dominated the early preceedings.

Pratesh Shirodkar missed his volley from a good cross sent in by Cajetan in the 11th minute. Two minutes later, Rowllin Borges' goal was disallowed as Shirodkar was deemed to have handled the ball in the build-up.

Slowly finding their footing, Mohammedan struck in the 32nd minute when Penn Orji spotted the run of Josimar on the left flank. The Brazilian made a swift dash into the box and placed the ball into the far corner to put his side in the lead.

A good delivery in the box from a Cajetan free-kick was headed on target by Ogba Kalu, but Ashok Singh dived low to his right to keep it out and went on to deny the Nigerian once more just before half-time.

Boima Karpeh was guilty of wasting two good chances. Rowllin set up Karpeh with a good opportunity in front of goal, but the Australian shot despairingly wide with only the keeper to beat while he also directed a free header off target in another attempt.

After the break, Kalu's header from a Rovan Pereira cross came off the horizontal in the 48th minute, while Karpeh continued to disappoint in front of goal until he scored the equaliser 10 minutes later.

Karpeh tricked his marker, Collin Abranches, as the Sporting Goa striker chested down Devrani's cross to bring the ball on to his left foot before slotting it low to Ashok Singh's right.

However, in the 71st minute, the Mohammedan substitutes combined well as Ajay Singh nodded his side back into the lead off a cross from the right by Israil Gurung.

Mohammedan threw men forward in an effort to take the game away from the home side and it paid off as Josimar struck again in the 89th minute to put the tie out of Sporting's reach at 1-3. The on-loan player from Salgaocar FC, Rakesh Masih, spotted the run of his team-mate who cleverly chipped the ball over the onrushing Ravi Kumar for a great finish.

The encounter ended on a sour note however as Karpeh lost his calm and furiously pushed Collin, giving referee Santhosh Kumar no other option than to send him off. The result means that Mohammedan climbs a point above East Bengal in the eigth spot while Sporting Goa remain fourh for the time-being.
