Rangdajied United and Churchill Brothers head into their fourth round tie of the I-League, knowing full well the repercussions and ramifications of a win and loss respectively. To put in simple terms - A draw simply will not do for any of these two.

RUFC will be looking to prove a point, as the newly promoted side’s ulterior ambition will be to stay amongst the big boys in the league’s first division. And how better to stake a claim for their survival than beating last year’s stuttering champions.

Santosh Kashyap, former Indian international and now coach of the Shillong-based side, will be aware of the challenge at hand and going all-out against a hopelessly faltering team will be his prescription.“The team is starting to come together and the last match has given us a huge boost, but it is a new setup and as I have stated in the past. We still need some time,” he stated in an interview while referring to the tremendous bite showed by his team during their stand-off draw with Dempo, which ended two apiece.

Lamine Tamba, a former Churchill defender, will look to thwart his former employers’ aims of winning the tie. The team are suffering no known injuries and Kashyap is expected to field a strong side including Eugeneson Lyngdoh, whose superior display against Dempo earned him widespread accolades.

David Nghaite, Restomwell Khriam and Joy Mrong Kharraswai along with Sandesh Gadkari are expected to start for the home team.

Churchill Bothers, on the other hand, are still struggling to get their first eleven intact. Their showing has been slipshod of late and now the champions find themselves at risk of being bottom of the heap if they do not get their act together, after faltering to losses against Salgaocar FC and Mumbai FC.

“We have to go all-out for a win. We have just one point from the opening three games. I hope the boys go out and give their best. I have full confidence in my boys,” lamented a sombre Mariano Dias, to The Herald, whose desperation was evident from his assessment at the task at hand.

“The loss against Mumbai FC last week didn’t dampen our spirits. Instead we played well. Had we converted our chances, we’d have had the result in our favour,” said the coach, highlighting key areas of improvement the team need to focus on.

He also stated that Rangdajied had the psychological edge as it is a home tie and their previous showing against Dempo would have uplifted their mentality.

He faces no serious injury crisis, with all foreigners including Henri Antchouet are expected to start.

The dilemma facing each coach here is the balance they must give their sides. A good attack must match and even defence at the back. Since the type of football isn’t relevant here, each team will be going hammer and tongs after the ball, which will ultimately see a scrappy affair pan out.

A team that takes its chances is expected to come out the winner here.
