Player Ratings: Borussia Dortmund 1-0 Werder Bremen

Goal rates the players on show as Robert Lewandowski's tap-in ensures BVB maintain their 100 per cent start to the season at the expense of Robin Dutt's side

    Roman Weidenfeller

The keeper was barely tested throughout the game, with his first real save coming in the 87th minute. Nevertheless, he maintained concentration and commanded his area well to keep Bremen off the scoreboard.

  • Neven Subotic

    Neven Subotic

He went for every tackle with the intention of winning the ball, but his judgement was at times lacking. He seemed to be lacking communication with those around him and one misunderstanding with Weidenfeller almost ended disastrously.

  • Mats Hummels

    Mats Hummels

A solid, if unspectacular, performance for the centre-back. He did what was asked of him with no fuss whatsoever. He held his position and orchestrated the defence capably and will be pleased with a clean sheet.

  • Marcel Schmelzer

    Marcel Schmelzer

Had very little to do defensively in the first half so, was able to help his team put Bremen under pressure in their own territory. He supported Reus well and put some decent crosses into the area.

  • Sebastian Kehl

    Sebastian Kehl

Patrolled the midfield effectively throughout the evening, making some important challenges. He closed the play quickly when he could and played a few impressive passes from deep areas.

  • Henrikh Mkhitaryan

    Henrikh Mkhitaryan

Showed flitting moments of his ability during the first half and missed a great opportunity to find the net in the 20th minute. He combined well with the players around him but was unable to find the killer pass to unlock the opposition.

  • Marco Reus

Marco Reus Top of the Match

Continually offered width on the left and had the beating of Gebre Selassie all night. He regularly looked to test Mielitz and was the creative hub of his team. He ended the night with an assist but could have had a few more than just the one.

  • Jakub Blaszczykowski

    Jakub Blaszczykowski

An energetic performance from the winger as he continually found space behind the Bremen defence. He hit the crossbar with a great effort in the first half and helped create numerous opportunities for his team-mates.

  • Nuri Sahin

    Nuri Sahin

Displayed his impressive range of passing with a number of high-quality balls from midfield. He linked defence to attack capably and also helped push his team forward from deeper areas. His finishing left a lot to be desired, though.

  • Kevin Großkreutz

    Kevin Großkreutz

Played out of position at right-back once more but had a fairly solid game. When pressed he was a bit quick to dive into the challenge, but he linked well with Blaszczykowski and put some decent crosses into the area.

  • Robert Lewandowski

    Robert Lewandowski

Brought others into play with his back to goal, showing a deft touch to forge some decent shooting opportunities. He had a slow start but after a flurry of chances before the break, he finally got his goal in the second half.

    Jonas Hofmann

Brought on for Mkhitaryan with just under 10 minutes left to play but caused Bremen problems with his pace and direct dribbling.

  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    3.00

    Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Proved a potent force on the counter-attack having replaced Blaszczykowski after the hour mark. His pace made him impossible to catch and he would have had a goal had it not been for a good Mielitz save.

  • Sebastian Mielitz

    Sebastian Mielitz

While the keeper was not really stretched in the first half, he did make a number of important saves to keep the score level going into the break. He continued to impress after the break with more stops, particularly from Aubameyang, to keep his side in with a shout.

  • Luca Caldirola

    Luca Caldirola

The Italian was slow to close the ball and regularly left large gaps in which Kuba and Grosskreutz ran into. In his frustration he resorted to making some unneccesarily rash challenges to stop them.

  • Assani Lukimya

Assani Lukimya Flop of the Match

The centre-back was strong in the air but was slow to react when the ball was on the deck. He first let Blaszczykowski into the area upon which he hit the bar and then lost Reus in the build-up to the opener.

  • Sebastian Prödl

    Sebastian Prödl

Looked a bit clumsy early on but he may well have just been showing BVB they would be in for a physical night. He was uncompromising and made some good interceptions, but he lost Lewandowski as he slotted home the opening goal.

  • Theodor Gebre Selassie

    3.00

    Theodor Gebre Selassie

The Czech international allowed Reus to cut inside of him far too frequently, and could have perhaps contributed more further forward. However, when called upon he positioned himself excellently to make some key blocks.

  • Cedrick Makiadi

    Cedrick Makiadi

Took on the holding role in Bremen's midfield and helped provide a solid base which allowed his team-mates more freedom higher up the pitch. He tracked the play well and was calm in possession.

  • Mehmet Ekici

    2.50

    Mehmet Ekici

Was the driving force in midfield which pushed Dutt's men forward early in the first half. However, this drew attention to him and he quickly faded into the background and became a peripheral figure.

  • Aaron Hunt

    3.00

    Aaron Hunt

Drifted between attack and defence and this made him difficult to pick up. He linked the play nicely in the final third and contributed defensively with two goal-line clearances to keep the score close.

  • Zlatko Junuzovic

    0
    2.50

    Zlatko Junuzovic

Failed to supply his usual dynamism in midfield and left the forwards short of support. He did not actively look to get himself involved in the game and without possession he was unable to influence proceedings.

  • Özkan Yildirim

    0
    2.50

    Özkan Yildirim

The 20-year-old had a few bright moments but on the whole struggled to get involved in the action. He had the awareness to fill in for his team-mates if they pushed on but should really have tested Weidenfeller having had a couple of good chances.

  • Marko Arnautovic

    3.00

    Marko Arnautovic

Did not receive an awful lot of service and so went hunting for the ball in wider areas. He put a great shot in on the brink of half time and only narrowly missed the target.

Substitutions

  • Eljero Elia

Brought on for Ekici in the 66th minute but he was unable to get on the ball in midfield and help his team push for an equaliser.

  • Franco Di Santo

    Franco Di Santo

Came on for Arnautovic and was quiet until the 87th minute, when it took a brilliant save from Weidenfeller to stop him from opening his Bundesliga account.
