Player Ratings: Chelsea 2-2 West Brom

A last-minute penalty from Eden Hazard saved the blushes of Jose Mourinho's men and denied the superb Baggies a first league win at Stamford Bridge since 1978

Petr Cech Flop of the Match

West Brom's lack of attacking threat in the first half meant he was a glorified spectator. Did himself no credit in the second though, parrying McAuley's header straight into the air to allow Long to attack the rebound. Also let Sessegnon's tame effort creep under his body.

  • Branislav Ivanovic

    Branislav Ivanovic

Given freedom to bomb forward down the right, his crossing was again very poor. That West Brom often left him in space on the flank was no coincidence. Beaten to the ball by McAuley in the build-up to Long's equaliser.

  • Gary Cahill

    2.50

    Gary Cahill

Assured in possession and generally looked after Long well, although West Brom's lack of attacking numbers gave him an easy ride for much of the afternoon. Allowed Long to steal in front of him to unleash a header which struck the post.

  • John Terry

    John Terry

Organised his backline well in the main, but appeared to freeze when Cech parried McAuley's header up into the air, allowing Long to attack the ball and head in.

  • César Azpilicueta

    César Azpilicueta

Solid again at left-back in the absence of Ashley Cole, though his attacking threat was blunted by being on the wrong flank.

  • Ramires

    Ramires

Sessegnon's brief to mark him meant the Brazilian could not be at his rampaging best. Used the ball sensibly without making a decisive impact. Definitely 'won' the last-minute penalty which secured the draw - Reid did very little wrong.

  • Frank Lampard

    2.50

    Frank Lampard

Kept things ticking over reasonably well without creating too much danger. Unleashed one trademark shot from 25 yards which flew a couple of yards over the bar. Replaced by Ba just after the hour mark.

  • Oscar
    15
    13
    2.50

    Oscar

Buzzed in between the lines and harried well when possession was lost, but this was nowhere near his most influential day. Still doesn't seem as effective against deep-lying defences as Mata.

  • Eden Hazard

    3.00

    Eden Hazard

Stifled well by Reid and Amalfitano when he stuck to the left flank, but cut inside well to unleash the shot which led to Chelsea's opener. Scored the last-minute penalty which saved his team's blushes.

  • Willian
    16
    8
    2.00

    Willian

Once again ineffective against a massed defence. Much better when he has space to run into, and this match was never going to highlight his talents.

  • Samuel Eto'o

    Samuel Eto'o

Took his goal well, but still doesn't seem to be in sync with the creative trio behind him. Starved of service for most of the afternoon.

Substitutions

    John Obi Mikel

Replaced Azpilicueta as Mourinho sought to give his team a platform for waves of increasingly desperate attacks.

  • Juan Mata

    Juan Mata

Replaced Oscar with 17 minutes left but didn't have enough time to save his team.

  • Demba Ba

    3.00

    Demba Ba

Came on with the scores level and narrowly failed to connect with Willian's cross as the Blues piled forward in search of an equaliser. It would have been a tap-in.

    B. Myhill

Parried Hazard's effort back into danger for Eto'o's opener, but otherwise did well and had surprisingly little to deal with. Made a superb stop to deny Ivanovic in the second half.

  • Steven Reid

    Steven Reid

Shackled Hazard well in tandem with Amalfitano on the left, ensuring the Belgian only caused problems when he drifted inside.

    Jonas Olsson

Stood up well to the barrage of crosses Chelsea put in and marshalled his defence superbly.

    Liam Ridgewell

Made a bad gaffe to allow Eto'o to steal in and give Chelsea the lead, but redeemed himself brilliantly by jinking past Cahill to feed Sessegnon for the Benin international's goal.

    Gareth McAuley

Defended his area well and provided a big threat from attacking set-pieces, beating Ivanovic in the build-up to Long's equaliser.
