Player Ratings: Southampton 2-0 Swansea

Saints kept yet another clean sheet as they got all three points against the Welsh side on Sunday afternoon, but had Artur Boruc to thank at times in a less-than-vintage display

    Artur Boruc

Made a great save to keep Michu out soon after the Saints opener, then got down quickly to deny Shelvey. Also made a good fingertip stop from Bony. Some of his distribution was very poor, though.

  • Nathaniel Clyne

    Nathaniel Clyne

Such a consistent performer. Joined the attack at every opportunity possible, while also having a solid game at the back.

  • Dejan Lovren

    Dejan Lovren

Had a few dodgy moments as some poor positioning allowed Dyer in for a chance just after the break, but overall it was another solid display from the impressive summer signing. Possibly fortunate to not be sent off for a clumsy foul on Bony.

  • Jose Rocha Fonte

    Jose Rocha Fonte

Sold too easily by Dyer before the Swansea attacker hit the post and struggled up against Bony at times - giving the ball away in a terrible position in the build-up to one chance. Did well in the air, though, and ultimately helped Saints earn another clean sheet.

  • Daniel Fox

    Daniel Fox

Struggled up against the quick, tricky Dyer at times, giving him too much space to run in to. Also failed to offer much going forward.

  • Morgan Schneiderlin

    Morgan Schneiderlin

Didn't quite run the game as he sometimes can, but kept Saints ticking from back to front with driving runs and forward-looking passes.

  • Steven Davis

    Steven Davis

Had an impressive game as he assisted Lallana's opener with a lovely ball, retained possession well and worked hard to win it back. Replaced very late on.

  • Victor Wanyama

Victor Wanyama Top of the Match

Put himself about and worked hard to stop Swansea from getting into a passing rhythm. Helped out his defence which didn't look as water tight as it has done this season. Possible unfortunate to have a goal ruled out for a foul.

  • Adam Lallana

    Adam Lallana

Took his goal extremely well and continued to cause Swansea problems with his tricky footwork and eye for a pass. However he did lack the definitive final piece of creativity at times.

  • Rickie Lambert

    2.50

    Rickie Lambert

Found space in between the lines and made things happen as he dropped off Osvaldo. Tested Vorm with a decent free kick. Ran out of legs and was replaced in the second half.

  • Pablo Daniel Osvaldo

    Pablo Daniel Osvaldo

Should have done better with an early chance but couldn't quite get the ball out of his feet quickly enough. Brought team-mates into the game with good hold-up play, winning lots of headers against Chico and Amat. Came off after suffering a slight injury after the break.

    James Ward-Prowse

Replaced Osvaldo early in the second half. Was caught napping on the ball a few times.

    Guilherme Do Prado

    Late substitute for Davis.

  • Jay Rodriguez

    Jay Rodriguez

Came on for Lambert with just over 20 minutes remaining and was rewarded for his hard running and persistence with a late poachers goal.

  • Michel Vorm

    Michel Vorm

Nearly handled outside the area in a nervy moment early on. Could do nothing about Lallana's goal. Saved well from a Lambert free kick.

  • Jordi Amat

    2.50

    Jordi Amat

Generally had a good game at the back for Swansea as they stopped Saints from creating much, apart from the goal, but also partly at fault for Rodriguez's late effort.

  • Chico

    2.00

    Chico Flop of the Match

Looked a bit rash at times, diving in on Osvaldo allowing the striker an early chance. His poor clearance also led to Saints' opener. Allowed Rodriguez to make the points safe with a late goal after some terrible defending as he failed to deal with a high ball.

  • Ángel Rangel

    Ángel Rangel

Supported Dyer on the right flank and picked out Michu with a brilliant ball to create a chance soon after the opener.

  • Ben Davies

    Ben Davies

Got forward well at times but was often pinned back by Clyne. Did better in the second half.

  • Jonjo Shelvey

    2.50

    Jonjo Shelvey

Gifted Saints an opportunity when he gave the ball away on the edge of his area. Pinged a few good long balls around but often gave it away. Tested Boruc with a decent low strike from outside the box.

  • Michu
    0
    2
    3.00

    Michu

Might have done better with a header at the back post soon after Lallana's goal, but saw Boruc make a fine save. Placed another one straight into the keeper's arms right before the break which he should have done better with.

  • Nathan Dyer
    0
    3
    3.50

    Nathan Dyer

Caused Saints lots of problems on the right wing, getting a number of decent balls into the box. Unlucky not to bag an equaliser when a first-half effort came back of the post, before going close again just after half-time.

  • Wayne Routledge

    Wayne Routledge

Failed to have any real influence on proceedings and was duly replaced in the second period.

  • José Cañas

    José Cañas

Helped Swansea limit Saints to just a few clear chances and kept Swansea moving through midfield. Booked for a nasty challenge on Osvaldo just after half-time.

  • Wilfried Bony
    1
    2
    3.50

    Wilfried Bony

Proved a real handful for Fonte and Lovren. Showed incredible strength at times, holding off the likes of Wanyama to bring others into play with equally impressive delicate touches. Should have done better with a free header soon before half-time.

    Pozuelo

Came on for Routledge in the second half.
