Live Commentary

  • Roberto Martinez's side will look to extend that unbeaten run when they host Newcastle next Monday night whilst West Ham will hope to bounce back when they travel to Hull. Thanks for joining me, Max Bentley, on this live commentary. Until next time, goodbye!
  • It's a good day for Everton fans. Liverpool's defeat to Southampton means that Everton are now the only unbeaten side in the Premier League.
  • So, West Ham finally get back to goalscoring ways but it comes at the expense of a second successive home defeat. The Hammers faithful certainly seemed a little restless at the final whistle.
  • What a thrilling game of football: free kicks, a penalty, a red card and a late winner! I'll tell you something...that left boot of Baines is pretty special!
  • FT: West Ham 2-3 Everton. Romelu Lukaku's late winner on his Everton debut extends the Toffee's unbeaten start to the season.
  • 90' + 7'
Lukaku has been fantastic on his Everton debut and his shot is deflected behind for a corner.
  • 90' + 6'
IT SHOULD BE 4-2! McCarthy sends Mirallas clear down the right wing but he cannot pick out his Belgian compatriot, Lukaku, in the middle as Diame backtracks brilliantly to make the interception.
  • 90' + 4'
An announcement goes around Upton Park, naming Wilson Reid as man-of-the-match. The New Zealand international has looked solid at the back for West Ham but I'd personally give it to Baines for those two outstanding free kicks.
  • 90' + 2'
REID TO THE RESCUE! Lukaku nearly wraps up the win when he jinks past Collins. However, Reid makes a brilliant last-ditch challenge to prevent the striker from getting his shot away.
  • 90'
The fourth official holds up the board to signal SEVEN minutes of stoppage time. Will we see a late goal?
  • 89'
West Ham are failing to give up on a third goal and Vaz Te goes close when his header flashes narrowly wide. Lukaku rejoins the action.
  • 87'
There is real concern over Lukaku here as he suffered a clash of heads with O'Brien after scoring what looks like it could be the winner. Will Everton have to play on with ten men?
  • 85'
    Assist Kevin Mirallas
  • 85'
    Goal R. Lukaku
LUKAKU MAKES IT 3-2! The Belgian may have wrapped up the points on his Everton debut as he powers a brilliant header past Jaaskelainen from Mirallas' precise cross. What a turnaround from the Toffees!
  • 83'
    Goal Leighton Baines
BAINES DOES IT AGAIN! The England left-back curls another inch-perfect free kick over the wall and it strikes the inside of the post before nestling into the net with Jaaskelainen motionless. Sensational, 2-2!
  • 81'
    Yellow/Red Mark Noble
NOBLE SENT OFF! Moments after scoring the penalty to put his side in front, the West Ham captain is showed a second yellow card for bringing down Barkley on the edge of the box. A clear foul. Can Baines repeat his earlier strike here?
  • 80'
    SubstitutionKevin Nolan Matthew Taylor
  • 80'
Final change for West Ham as Kevin Nolan is replaced by Matthew Taylor.
  • 79'
Lukaku is searching for a goal on his Everton debut but time is running out. He picks up the ball outside the box before slicing an effort well wide.
  • 78'
West Ham have a newfound sense of belief and Diame goes close when his shot goes just wide of the post. Can Everton claw back again to find a second equaliser?
  • 76'
    Penalty Goal Mark Noble
WEST HAM REGAIN THE LEAD! Mark Noble is the man on spot kick duty and he steps up confidently to roll a penalty into the bottom corner, sending Howard the wrong way.
  • 75'
PENALTY TO WEST HAM! Petric does brilliantly to nip the ball away from Coleman on the touchline and he cuts the ball back for Nolan, who is brought down by McCarthy. Lee Mason points to the spot.
  • 74'
Everton have enjoyed 70% of possession in the second half and they have really stifled the West Ham attack. Martinez's side are looking the more likely to snatch a winner.
  • 72'
    SubstitutionMatt Jarvis Ricardo Vaz Te
West Ham make their second substitution as Ricardo Vaz Te replaces Matt Jarvis. Can he spice up their attack?
  • 71'
Everton attack straight down the other end and Jaaskelainen produces a fine save to deny Baines' deflected cross.
  • 70'
West Ham's goal threat seems to be limited to set pieces and Diame goes close when he glances a header narrowly past the post.
  • 69'
Incidentally, Baines is one of a few Everton players wearing rainbow laces today as part of the anti-homophobia campaign.
  • 68'
    Yellow Card Mark Noble
  • 68'
Mark Noble is the third West Ham player to be cautioned after he tugs back on the shirt of Mirallas.
  • 67'
Everton are looking to build on that equaliser and Lukaku goes close when he pokes Mirallas' cross just past the post.
  • 65'
That wonderful free kick from Baines was his 20th career goal in the Premier League (Opta).
  • 63'
    SubstitutionModibo Maiga Mladen Petric
Sam Allardyce has made his first substitution with Mladen Petric coming on for his Hammers debut, in place of Modibo Maiga.
  • 62'
    Goal Leighton Baines
1-1! Fantastic goal from Leighton Baines as he curls a free kick over the wall and into the top corner. Jussi Jaaskelainen had no chance. Game on!
  • 61'
    Yellow Card James Collins
James Collins picks up a booking after he brings down Barkley in a dangerous area outside the box. This is Baines' territory.
  • 59'
Oviedo is denied an equaliser for Everton when Collins throws himself in front of the Costa Rican's shot. Brilliant defending.
  • 57'
It's been good intensity by Everton since half-time but they are still struggling to seriously test Jaaskelainen. Can they find a goal to extend their unbeaten start to the season?
  • 55'
Nolan gets away excellently down the left wing but his low cross into the box is intercepted crucially by Barry, with Maiga ready to pounce in the middle.
  • 53'
Barkley finds space around 30 yards out but his shot blazes high over the crossbar. Everton on top at the moment.
  • 52'
    SubstitutionLeon Osman Bryan Oviedo
Leon Osman walks down the tunnel and his game is over. Bryan Oviedo comes on to replace him. No more substitutions available for Roberto Martinez.
  • 50'
A concern here for Everton as Leon Osman goes down and he hobbles off the field gingerly. I'm not sure he will be able to continue.
  • 49'
Lukaku has made a very bright start and it requires a great challenge from Rat to deny the on-loan Chelsea man. Everton looking more dangerous already in the second half.
  • 48'
Lukaku slips Mirallas through on goal with almost his first touch. The Belgian forward rounds Jaaskelainen but cannot finish from an acute angle.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionNikica Jelavic R. Lukaku
  • 46'
    SubstitutionSteven Naismith James McCarthy
  • 46'
The teams re-emerge from the tunnel for the second half. Roberto Martinez has made two substitutions. Romelu Lukaku comes on for his Everton debut with fellow new boy James McCarthy also being introduced. Nikica Jelavic and Steven Naismith make way.
  • HT: West Ham 1-0 Everton. Ravel Morrison's deflected strike is the difference between the two sides at the break. The Hammers have looked very solid at the back and bar that early Mirallas chance, Everton have really struggled to test Jussi Jaskelainen. Perhaps we will see the introduction of Romelu Lukaku in the second half.
  • 45' + 1'
West Ham launch a free kick into the box and Howard does brilliantly to deny Nolan from Reid's knockdown. Seconds remaining until the half-time whistle.
  • 45'
    Yellow Card Ross Barkley
Ross Barkley joins Morrison in the book after his late challenge on the West Ham goalscorer.
  • 43'
Everton are passing the ball around neatly but they are really struggling to fashion chances in the final third. West Ham are looking very organised at the back and it is no surprise that they have conceded the joint-least goals in the Premier League.
  • 41'
West Ham continue to look dangerous from corners and Coleman makes a good block to prevent Nolan from extending the Hammers' lead.
  • 39'
Everton have responded well to going behind and they are starting to look more of a threat now. Can they restore parity before the half time whistle?
  • 37'
    Yellow Card Ravel Morrison
Ravel Morrison picks up the first yellow card of the game after his nasty challenge through the back of Naismith.
  • 35'
Everton break quickly from a corner and it is Barkley against O'Brien. The Everton youngster looks to burst past the left-back but is halted by a fantastic last-ditch challenge.
  • 33'
Despite his side taking the lead, Sam Allardyce is not a happy man on the touchline and he berates his players, shouting orders from the touchline.
  • 31'
    Assist Matt Jarvis
  • 31'
    Goal Ravel Morrison
WEST HAM 1-0 EVERTON! Ravel Morrison scores his first top-flight goal, receiving Jarvis' pass on the edge of the box before his shot takes a wicked deflection off Distin and wrongfoots Howard. A huge slice of fortune but the home fans do not care.
  • 30'
Very few chances to report of in the opening half hour of with both teams cancelling each other out in the midfield. Baines whips a teasing cross into the box but it is too close to Jaaskelainen, who makes the save.
  • 28'
There is another stoppage in play as O'Brien goes down and requires treatment. However, he should be okay to continue.
  • 26'
Barkley spots the run of Jelavic in the box but his chipped pass is intercepted crucially by Noble. With Lukaku waiting in the wings, the Croatian forward knows he will need to get on the scoresheet sooner or later if he is to retain his starting berth.
  • 24'
The corner comes in from the left but Collins can only divert his header wide of the post. The Hammers certainly do look a threat from set-pieces.
  • 22'
Wilson Reid launches a teasing free kick into the Everton box but Jagielka rises highest to nod the ball behind for a corner. West Ham slightly shading proceedings here.
  • 20'
Two goals have been scored in the other three o'clock kick-offs. Loic Remy has given Newcastle a 1-0 lead over Hull whilst Stephane Sessegnon has scored against his old club Sunderland to give West Brom a 1-0 lead.
  • 19'
A stoppage in play as Maiga goes down after getting a knock to the ankle. The Malian forward should be back to his feet soon.
  • 18'
Everton are starting to enjoy a little more of the ball in West Ham's final third. However Mirallas is denied a route to goal when Diame backtracks excellently to make a well-timed challenge.
  • 17'
Maiga will be looking to make an impression in Carroll's absence but ballooning the ball way over the bar from the edge of the box like that will certainly not help.
  • 16'
We haven't seen too much of Everton's attacking threat so far this afternoon. However, Mirallas is the one who has looked most lively and he tests Jaaskelainen again with a low shot at his near post.
  • 15'
West Ham will be keen to end their goalless streak today. It is almost seven years since they last went four successive Premier League games without scoring.
  • 13'
West Ham win a free kick in a good position but Noble overhits it and the ball runs straight through for Howard to claim. That was disappointing as West Ham had all the big boys up from the back.
  • 12'
West Ham have not scored since their opening day win against Cardiff. However, Sam Allardyce will be pleased with the bright start his side have made here.
  • 10'
West Ham are looking to cause problems with their aerial threat but Everton defend well to clear a corner from the left.
  • 9'
Nolan produces a fine pass to send Jarvis away down the left. He surges into the box but Distin gets back excellently to make a crucial challenge.
  • 7'
GOOD SAVE FROM JAASKELAINEN! This time it is Everton's turn to threaten and the Finnish goalkeeper produces a smart save to palm away Mirallas' fierce shot.
  • 5'
Diame has the first chance of the game when he finds space on the left corner of the box. However, he cannot test Howard and slices his shot well wide of the target.
  • 4'
It's been a fairly slow start at Upton Park with neither side threatening so far. We might be a bit optimistic in expecting goals today. Four of the eight league matches they have played between them have ended goalless.
  • 2'
Romelu Lukaku is among the substitutes for Everton today. If he can replicate the form he showed at West Brom last season, he could be some signing for the Toffees.
  • 1'
Lee Mason blows his whistle and Everton get the ball rolling.
  • The two sides emerge from the tunnel with Kevin Nolan and Phil Jagielka exchanging handshakes in the centre-circle. West Ham are in their traditional claret jerseys with Everton in their alternative white strip.
  • Everton (4-3-3): Howard; Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines; Barkley, Barry, Osman; Mirallas, Jelavic, Naismith.
  • West Ham (4-2-3-1): Jaaskelainen; Reid, O'Brien, Collins, Rat; Noble, Diame; Morrison, Nolan, Jarvis; Jelavic.
  • Without further ado, here are today's lineups...
  • Roberto Martinez began his Everton tenure with three consecutive league draws but they will be looking for back-to-back victories today after last Saturday's superb 1-0 win over Chelsea. Who will earn the three points this afternoon? Bringing you all the action from Upton Park, my name is Max Bentley.
  • The omens do not look good for West Ham. With Andy Carroll still sidelined, the Hammers have looked shot-shy in front of goal and they have only mustered six shots on target so far this campaign, scoring two goals in their first four league matches. However, they have only conceded once - the joint-best defensive record in the division.
  • It's been nearly six-and-a-half years since West Ham have beaten Everton in the Premier League. That was back in the Alan Curbishley days when a Bobby Zamora strike gave the Hammers a 1-0 win. Since then, they have failed to register a victory against Everton in 10 league attempts. Will they come unstuck against the Toffees again today?
