The Baggies deputy keeper stepped in due to the absence of Ben Foster but could do little to prevent the opening goal. Nearly involved in a mix-up at the back after being left short from a pass, but dealt with it well.

Only had Bony to contend with up front until he was replaced in the second half and on the whole did well.

Couldn't stop Hernandez firing in a cross for the opening goal, but provided some decent runs and width going forward.

    Gareth McAuley

The 33-year-old really stepped up to the forefront last season and has become one of the Baggies' most realiable heads at the back.

The combatitve right-back is an ever-reliable presence at the back and put in another solid performance. Part of a strong right-side of defence for the home side alongside McAuley, venturing forward on occassion.

  • Claudio Yacob

    Claudio Yacob

Caught Michu late on his ankle during the second-half, much to the annoyance of the Spaniard who earned a yellow card for raising his hands in reaction. Replaced in the second half for Rosenburg.

James Morrison Flop of the Match

Missed a glorious chance just after 15 minutes with a free header from a Sinclair free kick and found himself needlessly offside in a break just minutes later. Withdrawn at half-time for Dorrans.

Not the usual commanding performance from the midfield battler and misplaced one or two simple passes to lose posession.

  • Shane Long

    Shane Long

Started alongside Anelka and began to show promise as a partnership up front, threading the Frenchman through for a narrow miss in the first half.

  • Scott Sinclair

    Scott Sinclair

Played a full 90 minutes in midweek during their Capital One Cup win and made his league debut against his former side. Was jeered by away fans but that was perrhaps expected. Looked lively on the wing but not fully match fit. Replaced by Berahino.

  • Nicolas Anelka

    Nicolas Anelka

The veteran France striker looked far more of a threat than his last outing at the Hawthorns, following his return from compassionate leave on Thursday. A willing runner throughout, he came closest to scoring on the half-hour mark.

    Graham Dorrans

Introduced at half time for James Morrison - presumably to offer more creative flair in the middle - but instead earned a booking for a foul on Hernandez shortly after. Didn't offer much when brought on.

  • Saido Berahino

    Saido Berahino

Came on for Sinclair in the second half after single-handedly putting the Baggies through to the next round of the Capital One Cup with a hat-trick in midweek. Fans reacted well to his arrival but he had little impact.

  • Michel Vorm

    Michel Vorm

Didn't have a save of note to make in the first half and that didn't change in the second.

    Chico

The Baggies didn't really test the defence much bar a missed one-on-one effort and a clear-cut header from a corner, meaning the defence looked tidy.

  • Ashley Williams

The Swans captain lead his side to their first points of the season having missed out in midweek and will be happy with the clean sheet.

  • Ángel Rangel

    Ángel Rangel

Hasn't looked out of place in this league since making the jump when they gained promotion and looked comfortable again.

  • Ben Davies

    Ben Davies

The left-back hit the opening goal of the game after bursting into the box to latch onto a Hernandez cross. He linked up well with Routledge on the left and found himself in some good attacking positions.

  • Jonjo Shelvey

    Jonjo Shelvey

The signing of the former Liverpool man split opinions but he has a real role to play when his side are away from home. He provided a good balance in the middle during quick counterattacks.

  • Michu

    Michu

The Swans' top goalscorer last season put in a good shift to link up play between midfield and attack but could have perhaps seen red for raising his hands against Yacob.

  • Pablo Hernández

Pablo Hernández Top of the Match

Provided the assist for the opening goal after some persistant wing-play on both flanks. Clipped the bar with a tricky run and shot towards the end and then doubled the Swans' advantage with a shot that found the roof of the net.

  • Wayne Routledge

    Wayne Routledge

The tricky winger was direct in his runs and dribbling but made a couple of bad decisions to cross when there were better options available. Had a glorious chance to double the lead in the second half but couldn't convert one-on-one with the keeper. Taken off straight after.

  • José Cañas

    José Cañas

Provided some good stability in midfield alongside Shelvey in a midfield that didn't give their opponents much.

  • Wilfried Bony

    Wilfried Bony

Missed out on the defeat in midweek and was a possible doubt with injury, but started today and held the ball up well in places. Never really got going and was eventually replaced in the second half by De Guzman.

    Jonathan De Guzmán

Came on for Bony after an hour of play, allowing Michu to take up the more advanced position up top. Didn't make much of an impact after giving the ball away in his first few touches.

  • Pozuelo

Replaced Routledge in the second half but didn't have time to make an impact.
