Mohammedan Sporting Club and Bhawanipore FC played out a goalless draw in their penultimate Round 2 match of the I-League division II Final Phase, in Bangalore, on Thursday.
Sanjoy Sen's side lead the standings table with 18 points from nine matches, followed by Rangdajied United FC (16) and Bhawanipore (14) from as many matches.
Bhawanipore hence have to win their last match against Mumbai Tigers FC, while Rangdajied take on Mohammedan Sporting. Both these matches are scheduled to be played on Saturday.
A draw for the Meghalaya outfit meanwhile, would mean that the team with a better goal difference will make it through as both sides have an equal head-to-head record, beating each other 1-0 in the double leg of the final phase.
With reference to Thursday's match that concluded between Mohammedan Sporting and Bhawanipore, it was a closely contested encounter that only lacked goals.
Bhawanipore keeper Debjit Mazumder denied Jerry Zirsingha and Younes Baltham from their respective chances in the first half, which saw one of Hudson Lima Silva's flag kick come off the post on the other side.
Baltham, J Prasad and Alfred Jaryan put down more goalscoring opportunities in the remainder of the match for Sporting, while Lima and Jose Ramirez Barreto's attempts for the third placed team failed to pay any dividents.
