Mohammedan Sporting Club move on 17 points from eight matches after beating Mumbai Tigers FC 2-0 in Round 2 of the ongoing I-League division II played at the Bangalore football stadium, on Sunday.
Bimal Ghosh's side had begun as the better team, but lacked creativity in the attacking third as the score remained goalless until the 83rd minute, despite the constant efforts of NP Pradeep, Paresh Shivalkar and Thoi Singh.
Sanjoy Sen's outfit picked the momentum from there on and it was Charles Dzisah who headed in the opener from a Jerry Zirsingha corner in the 83rd minute, which was before Liberian national Alfred Jaryan doubled the lead (90+4') with a volley after substitute Phoolchand Hembren floated in a pass from the left.
Mumbai Tigers meanwhile, with nine points from eight matches, now see their I-League qualification hopes diminishing after suffering their third consecutive defeat.
In the other match of the day, Hudson Lima Silva scored a hat-trick (12',57',74') for Bhawanipore FC's 4-1 win over Southern Samity, taking the winners back on second position. Barreto (14') also scored for the winners, while Basant Singh (63') pulled one back for Samity.
