The second round of the Second Division I-League kicked off with two action packed matches at Bangalore on Saturday. Six teams have qualified to compete in the final round. The first leg matches are being played at Bangalore.

In the first match of the day, Southern Samity played out a 1-1 draw with Rangdajied United. It was United, the team from Meghalaya which broke the deadlock as Babatunde Ayomide’s strike found the net in the 30th minute of the match. Coach Subrata Bhattacharya altered his strategy and it didn’t take his boys more than six minutes after the break to restore parity in the game through Imran Khan.

In the other match of the day, a star-studded Mumbai Tigers side started their campaign on a winning note as a spot-kick from Sunil Kumar gave them the desired three points against Langsning FC.

The first half of the match saw Langsning dominating the game, as Tigers were unable to cope with the opponent’s passing football. Daniel Bidemu and Joel Sunday combined upfront to create tense moments for the Tigers’ defense.  They missed a couple of sitters, the most notable being the Joel shot which flew wide from inside the 6-yard box. In the 25th minute, Daniel Bidemu, the captain of the side slotted the ball into the back of the net, but the move was deemed offside.

However, the Tigers scored the elusive goal in the dying minutes of the first half, when an impressive run of Demba Dikhate down the left flank was cut short by a rash sliding tackle by Devit Meetei. Sunil Kumar, the Tigers midfielder kept his calm and converted from the spot.

The second half of the match didn’t saw many chances being created and the scoreline remained the same.
