Myanmar brought themselves closer to qualifying for the AFC Challenge Cup 2014 with a massive 5-0 win over minnows, Guam held at the Youth Training Centre in Yangon. First half goals from Soe Min Oo (26'), Kyi Lin(39') from the spot and Pyaye Phyo Aung (45+2') put the tie beyond doubt while the icing was added by strikes from Pai Soe (50') and Zayar Win Kyaw (80').
The hosts started in an attacking 4-4-2 formation with two strikers playing in tandem and pushed forward at every opportunity. In the sixth minute itself, Pyas phyo Aung's cross found Paing Soe whose shot was bloked. As Guam looked to sit back, the White Angels began to dominate the proceedings and it took them about half an hour to open the scoring when Soe found the net after being left unmarked. They doubled the lead in the 39th minute as Kyi Lin was brought down in the box. He stepped up himself for the ensuing spot kick and made no mistake.
Just minutes before the first half ended, they made it 3-0 when Aung got at the end of a Kyi pass to shoot home easily. Things started in a similar vein in the second half too, as Myanmar went four goals to the good 2 minutes before the hour mark. Yan Aung Kyaw found Paing Soe in the box who met the ball perfectly, and drilled a shot at the far corner.
The icing on the cake was added by Kyaw Zayar whose fierce drive from 25 yards caught the goalkeeper off guard and added another goal for the dominant hosts. It was Kyi Lin who was the architect yet again.
