    Boubacar Barry Copa

Gave Nigeria the lead with an absolute howler in the first half, despite the power in the strike from Emenike. Had no chance with the winning goal as he was rooted to the spot.

  • Siaka Tiéné

    2.00

    Siaka Tiéné

Allowed Moses to drift inside far too often and although he got forward at will down the left, his final pass or cross inside was, more often than not, awful. Broke down attacks time and time again.

  • Emmanuel Eboue

    3.00

    Emmanuel Eboue

Showed plenty of gusto in his driving runs forward but his decision making was questionable in the final third. Failed to pick up Ideye Brown at set-pieces and allowed the Nigerian free headers at goal.

  • Sol Bamba

    Sol Bamba

Will sadly be cast as the villain of the piece. Could do nothing when Mba's shot deflected off his back and into the net. Did pose a threat at set-pieces.

  • Didier Zokora

    2.50

    Didier Zokora

Had 'maestro' on his back this afternoon, but he was anything but in this game. Not a recognised central defender, he allowed Emenike too much room and was bullied in the air.

  • Romaric

    3
    2.50

    Romaric

Curled a free kick towards the top corner that unluckily crept over the crossbar. However, his passing was woefully slow which slowed down the tempo of the match.

  • Cheikh Tiote
    4
    2
    3.50

    Cheikh Tiote

Drifted in at the back post and bulleted a header home for his first international goal. Was the only midfielder in his side who played with any intensity. Unlucky to be on the losing side.

  • Yaya Touré
    5
    4
    3.00

    Yaya Touré

Had a powerful effort from just inside the box well saved from Enyeama in the second period, but failed to assert any kind of authority in the match, and was well marshalled by Mikel.

  • Salomon Kalou
    5
    3
    2.50

    Salomon Kalou

Showed a couple of neat touches in the final third but was ultimately ineffective. Earned a yellow card for diving inside the box and was substituted midway through the second half.

  • Gervinho
    1
    6
    2.50

    Gervinho

Saw a stinging effort from the edge of the box blocked by Omeruo in the second period. However, did not make the most out of the decent positions he got himself into. Did not really have any coherent communication with the other attackers.

  • Didier Drogba
    7
    5
    2.50

    Didier Drogba

Very quiet match for the captain. Failed to get the better of the youthful central defensive pairing of Nigeria and did not pose much of a threat. Did provide an assist with a lovely free kick to the back post.

  • Max-Alain Gradel

    Max-Alain Gradel

Displayed his pace after coming on but did not really affect the outcome of the game.

  • Lacina Traore

    2.50

    Lacina Traore

Should have pulled the trigger quicker with his chance shortly after coming on.

  • Vincent Enyeama
    5
    1
    3.00

    Vincent Enyeama

Was barely tested in the first half, although he was protected by the referee a few times when he was bullied in the air. Pulled of an excellent save to deny Yaya Toure’s powerful effort.

  • Uwa Elderson Echiejile
    3

    3.00

    Uwa Elderson Echiejile

Gervinho caused him some trouble when he cut in from the right and he did give away a few fouls. Decision making was not always good when going forward as he shot from poor positions when team-mates were better placed.

  • E. Ambrose
    3
    2
    3.00

    E. Ambrose

Not only did he not give Kalou a sniff down the left-wing, but he got forward and joined attacks as well. Gave away the free kick which lead to Tiote’s headed goal.

  • Godfrey Oboabona
    5
    1
    3.50

    Godfrey Oboabona

Was dominant at defending from set-pieces and time and time again, headed the ball to safety from free kicks and corners. Cleared the ball with a number of well-timed interceptions.

  • Kenneth Omeruo
    5
    1
    4.00

    Kenneth Omeruo

Was guilty of being pulled out of position a few times but aerially he held his own with Didier Drogba for the majority of the match. Gervinho caused him some trouble when he cut in from the right and he did give away a few fouls.

  • John Obi Mikel
    20
    0
    4.00

    John Obi Mikel

Bossed the match in the first half and effortlessly distributed the ball from deeper areas. Kept Toure fairly quiet and saved his side in the dying minutes when he made a super last-ditch challenge to deny Traore.

  • Victor Moses
    16
    0
    4.00

    Victor Moses

Lit up the match in the opening 15 minutes with a superb long-range strike that was palmed away by Barry. Was the brightest player on the park and was always looking to come and collect possession. Delivery into the box from set-pieces caused Cote d'Ivoire problems all afternoon.

  • Ogenyi Onazi
    2
    1
    3.00

    Ogenyi Onazi

Cynically brought down Kalou with a poor challenge on the wing to earn himself a booking. Put himself about in the middle of the park and was always looking to initiate counterattacks.

  • Sunday Mba
    5
    1
    3.50

    Sunday Mba

Had a relatively quiet match in the first period and the majority of the second. However, proved to be the hero when he his deflected shot looped over Boubacar Barry to give Nigeria the win.

  • Emenike
    5
    2
    4.00

    Emenike

Opened the scoring just before the break with a rocket of a shot from 30 yards, which atoned for his earlier chance that he blasted over the bar. Always put himself about up top and provided a cool head in the remaining minutes when Nigeria were seeing out the win.

  • B. Ideye
    5
    1
    3.00

    B. Ideye

Got on the end of a couple of crosses at the back post but failed to direct his headers towards goal. Missed a glorious opportunity to put his side 2-1 up when he headed into the ground, but was always a thorn in the side of the opposition.

Substitutions

  • Joseph Yobo

    2.50

    Joseph Yobo

Came on in the dying minutes as Nigeria saw out the win.
