    Itumeleng Isaac Khune

Fantastic distribution throughout the match, putting his side on the front foot with perfect throwing and kicking. Set up a great deal of counterattacks for Bafana Bafana. Although unorthodox, he certainly did his job well.

  • Siboniso Pa Gaxa

    Siboniso Pa Gaxa

Put in some great deliveries from the right side, and despite not looking particularly solid defensively, was a good wide outlet for his side. Unfortunate not to pick up an assist, but was bullied by Tamboura later in the second half.

  • Peter Tsepo Masilela

    Peter Tsepo Masilela

Consistent and solid, as is expected from the left-back. Dealt well with the pace and strength of Samba Diakite before he was substituted in the first half. The quality of his deliveries however, was poor.

  • Bongani Khumalo

    3.00

    Bongani Khumalo

Dominant in the air, and made some vital interceptions to keep his side ahead in the first half. Struggled a little more against the imposing figure of Diabate and had far less luck in the second half.

    S. Sangweni

Aerially strong, and was unlucky not to get on the end of corners at the other end to extend his goalscoring at this year's tournament. Struggled a little more when his side came under more extended pressure in the second half.

  • Reneilwe Letsholonyane

    Reneilwe Letsholonyane

The best he has performed at this year's tournament. Tenacious in midfield, and also showed some technical ability which has been missing from his game recently. Put in a great amount of effort.

  • Dean Furman

    2.50

    Dean Furman

Made some vital interceptions in the first half, and generally acted as a base to build upon for South Africa, however was occasionally caught in possession. Went off the boil totally in the second half, and looked a shadow of himself.

  • Thuso Phala

    Thuso Phala

Worried Mali with his energetic running, however he occasionally made the wrong offensive decisions. Was rightfully hauled off after putting in a great deal of effort.

  • May Siphiwe Mahlangu

    3.00

    May Siphiwe Mahlangu

Lacking the final ball at times, but generally worked well as another energetic cog in a fluid South Africa midfield. With the ball at his feet, he was fantastic, but when it came to picking a pass he didn't quite reach the same standard.

  • Bernard Melvin Parker

    Bernard Melvin Parker

Unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet in the first half due to several good blocks from the opposition. Pulled the ball back well for Rantie's opener. Struggled after his assist, however, and looked a little short of ideas.

  • Tokelo Anthony Rantie

    3.50

    Tokelo Anthony Rantie

Was a general nuisance while he was on the field, managing to get in behind the Mali defence on several occasions. Took his goal well, scoring a poacher's effort at the back post. Unfortunate to go off with an injury.

    Lawrence Siphiwe Tshabalala

Made a reasonable impact after coming on in extra time, but didn't really manage to dictate play how Igesund may have envisaged. He did, however, convert his penalty well.

  • Thulani Serero

    2.50

    Thulani Serero

Looked comfortable on the ball, but failed to really bring an end product to the game. In the build up, he worked well, but around the opposition area, he lacked that spark to win his side the game.

  • M. Majoro

    M. Majoro

Couldn't quite replace Rantie, but still played well off the last man. Was unfortunate to come up against such a solid Mali defence, especially against the powerhouse Tamboura.

  • Soumbeyla Diakite

    3.50

    Soumbeyla Diakite

Made a couple of good saves in the first half to keep Rantie's goal haul to merely one. Although he wasn't always a reassuring presence, he made the saves and claims which were required of him.

  • Fousseyni Diawara

    3.00

    Fousseyni Diawara

Was caught out positionally various times throughout the first half, as Parker and Mahlangu were forever getting in behind the full-back. However, in the second half, he was far more solid, and also pushed forward.

  • Adama Tamboura
    2

    4.00

    Adama Tamboura

Performed well, using his pace and power both defensively and offensively. Managed to make a couple of good recovering challenges, as well as offering great service on the overlap for Samassa. Best player on the pitch.

  • Adama Coulibaly
    1
    0
    3.50

    Adama Coulibaly

When Mali were under pressure, his blocks and clearances were vital in keeping South Africa's half time lead to only one goal. Was a colossus in the the centre of defence.

  • Molla Wague
    2
    0
    3.50

    Molla Wague

Made his fair share of interceptions, as the Malian defence went into siege mode in the first half. Performed very well and very solid indeed, helping his side's cause no ends with headed clearances.

  • Seydou Keita
    1
    0
    3.50

    Seydou Keita

Picked his passes quite well, however he occasionally took a little too long on the ball in the first half. His experience was invaluable in the second half however, leading his side to an unforgettable win.

  • Samba Sow

    3.00

    Samba Sow

Unfortunate in the first half, as he would get into the correct positions, but couldn't quite manage to find the finishing touch required. Worked hard throughout, but lacked that cutting edge both sides needed so desperately.

  • Mohamed Lamine Sissoko
    1
    1
    3.00

    Mohamed Lamine Sissoko

Composed on the ball and rarely gave the ball away. Was unfortunate to be sacrificed for a more offensive player in the second half, but his discipline wasn't required as Mali looked for a way back into the game.

  • Samba Diakité
    1
    0
    2.50

    Samba Diakité

Drove well in the opening 20 minutes of the game, causing real problems for Masilela, but then unfortunately was forced into substitution through what looked like delayed concussion.

  • Mamadou Samassa
    2
    0
    3.00

    Mamadou Samassa

Caused South Africa problems throughout, and despite looking isolated in the first half, he held up play very well in the second 45 minutes.

  • Modibo Maiga
    1
    1
    3.00

    Modibo Maiga

Was a focal point for the team throughout, and contributed well to build up play, despite not having any chances himself. Definitely could do with better service in future games.

Substitutions

  • Mohamed Traoré

    0
    3.50

    Mohamed Traoré

Made a real impact after coming on, both on and off the ball. He added a new intensity to his side, and also took his penalty very well in the shootout.

  • Sigamary Diarra
    1
    0
    3.00

    Sigamary Diarra

Was a willing runner after being brought on, and did trouble Gaxa at times. However, he made a couple of bad decisions, choosing to take on his man when it would have been better to get the ball swung into the box.

  • Cheick Tidiane Diabaté
    2
    0
    3.00

    Cheick Tidiane Diabaté

Was a huge outlet after coming on, and caused big problems for Khumalo with his touch and size. Confidently dispatched his penalty, sending Khune the wrong way with a caressed finish.
