| PREVIEW |
Prayag United coach Eelco Schattorie was not a happy man after his side slumped to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Khalid Jamil's Mumbai FC. The Dutch coach was livid and branded his opponents of being 'anti-football' as he claimed that they resorted to time-wasting tactics.
The Kolkata club have to move on from the loss and concentrate on the visit from their city rivals Mohun Bagan, who are making a return to the I-League after being banned initially. Schattorie will emphasise the importance of winning against Bagan as the Mariners have not been even close to hitting top gear and will crumble if Prayag get their tactics right. A win will keep the Kolkata side in fifth place.
Mohun Bagan would have had a headache off their minds when the All India Football Federation (AIFF) chose to overturn their ban and keep them in the I-League's scheme of things. But their form still hasn't changed. Karim Bencherifa's side have picked up only 1 point from a possible 6 after a loss to Salgaocar on and a tame draw against United Sikkim in a week's time.
The coach can attribute the club's poor form to injuries and suspensions to key players, but the team had enough depth and quality to pick up maximum points against Salgaocar and United Sikkim. The Mariners will now face Prayag United, whose record in the I-League is vacillating of sorts as they tend to put in a couple of brilliant performances followed by some poor ones.
Bencherifa has only a limited window to sort out the mess at Mohun Bagan to keep the club in the I-League and not waste the golden opportunity that the AIFF has given them by revoking their ban.
| TEAM NEWS |
Prayag United: Eelco Schattorie will still be without his influential playmaker Carlos Hernandez who has returned home for personal reasons. However the Dutchman can welcome back Lalkamal Bhowmick who missed the defeat to Mumbai FC through suspension. The rest of the team will most likely remain unchanged.
Mohun Bagan: Karim Bencherifa will not be able to avail the services of their talisman Odafa Okolie who is serving the final match of his three game suspension. The Mariners have drafted in Sushant Matthew and Quinton Jacobs and it is likely that they will see some gametime this weekend.
