With a win more than their opponents, East Bengal currently top Group H with 11 points from five matches. Sai Gon Xuan Thanh FC (8), on the other hand, are three points ahead of Selangor FA and need at least a point to make it through from the group stage.
The home team will be missing the services of striker Manandeep Singh and skipper Mehtab Hussain, who are suspended for the match, with midfielder Sanju Pradhan set to wear the captain's armband. Harmanjot Khabra is out of action for another eight weeks.
Should East Bengal manage to come out of the game unscathed, they will have the honour of being the first Indian club to go unbeaten in the group stages of the continental competition.
Meanwhile, Tran Tien Dai will also be forced ro shuffle his side against East Bengal as the Vietnamese Cup winners have to deal with the suspension of striker Nguyen Rogerio and injuries to several of their regulars such as goalkeeper Bui Tran Troung and striker Moses Oloya.
The previous encounter between the two teams at Ho Chi Minh City last month ended in a goalless draw. So did the last two respective matches of East Bengal and Sai Gon, who have two draws each, while a win for the latter will see them pip their hosts to pole position and claim home advantage in the round of 16.
