Portugal deserved to win. They didn’t start the game well but came on stronger and stronger and looked more and more the likely winners. Ronaldo deserved to score the winner after his performance, especially after having hit the post twice. The Czechs can’t have too many complaints in the end.

A disappointing climax to the Czechs time in Poland and Ukraine. But there will be no compliants about tonights result against a very talented Portuguese side. Failure to score after dominance in the opening exchanges have cost them. Petr Jiracek, Vaclav Pilar and Jaroslav Plasil were unable to stamp their authority onto the game.

If Ronaldo's 4 efforts vs woodwork had gone in, he would've beaten Platini as all-time European Championship top scorer on 10 goals.

And the match report and player ratings are in. Do take a look.

With 6 goals, Ronaldo joins Ibrahimovic, Henry, VNistelrooy, Kluivert and Nuno Gomes. Only Platini (9) and Shearer (7) have more European Championship goals.

And it's Portugal going through to the semi finals! Powered by Ronaldo's goal, it was enough for them to edge through 0-1.

Goal.com's Victor offers his analysis of how Portugal finally scored: "Until then it had been last ditch defending from the Czechs at times, while Portugal just couldn’t find the final ball until Moutinho’s great cross for the goal. Portugal’s build-up play had been too slow at times. It was a couple of quick passes and good movement which finally opened them up."

It takes a SECOND to score a goal! And Cristiano Ronaldo makes it worth the wait! Powering a header past Cech, that had Portugal's dreams going in with it! 0-1 to Portugal in the 80th minute.

Kadlec is back on the pitch and looks ready to play on. Portugal continue to apply massive pressure here; Nani plays a great ball into the near post that Ronaldo tries to flick on target, but Kadlec gets a foot to it first. Corner to Portugal.

Mark Smith argues that despite Cech's great form, the Czech Republic might not want this to go to penalties, which is a very real possibility unless one of these sides score: "Petr Cech is palming away shot after shot, the 30 year-old custodian is keeping his side in proceedings. Promising if the game heads into penalties, which looks very likely. However, the Czech penalty shooting in training this week left alot to be desired. "

Goal.com's Mark Smith says the Czechs have it all to do this half: "Petr Jiracek and Vaclav Pilar, the oustanding Czechs players so far, have been fairly annoyomous thus far. It's hard to see where a Czech goal will come from. However, the stage could well be set for Tomas Rosciky, who has been sidelined with an achiles injury, to return to the fold as a potential game winner. "

And we have kick-off! Someone needs to seize this game!

Portugal started to come on stronger at the end of the second half. Ronaldo hit the post yet again after a great piece of skill. I’ve lost count of how many times he’s hit the post in this tournament. No wonder he looks so anguished.

Two bookings for Portugal already. It’s a sign of how much they are being given a hard time by the Czechs who are showing themselves to be particularly dangerous on the counter-attack and have forced several corners and had some threatening attacks. Ronaldo and Nani are trying hard, and Ronaldo has had a couple of chances, but the team’s passing has not flowed.

As we mull over the first half, Goal.com's Adam Scime reports a fire has broken out in front of Dynamo Kiev Stadium, due to host Italy-England on Sunday. Over 15 fire engines are currently working on containing the blaze, just 200 meters from the stadium!

01:02 IST

22/06/12

And the referee calss time to a mostly harmless first half and we're no closer to finding a winner than we were 45 minutes ago. Locked at 0-0

01:01 IST

22/06/12

Ronaldo! Contols a drifting cross from the midfield and controls it off his chest, getting the shot away first time! It goes past Cech but hits the outside of the post! Is it going to be one of those days for the Real Madrid forward?

00:55 IST

22/06/12

And Helder Postiga pulls up short with a hamstring injury! Portugal are forced into making a first half substitution in the 39th minue. Hugo Almeida comes on for the injured frontman.
