It was a sad bow to international football for Italy's legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who had dreamed of bowing out with another record in his astonishing career -a sixth World Cup finals appearance.
Buffon's Russia dream was ended by a humiliating World Cup playoff exit against Sweden at Milan’s San Siro stadium, as Italy missed out on the finals for the first time in 60 years.
His Juventus teammate, Sami Khedira said he was sorry, mostly for Buffon, to see Italy fail to make Russia 2018.
